WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

YOU REVERTED ALL MY EDITS AND DELETED ALL MY PICTURES? WHY THE HECK DID YOU DO THAT? I HATE YOU! DID YOU REALLY NEED TO DO THAT? HONESTLY, WHAT WAS THAT FOR? Toon Link 2 16:48, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

Hi. I'll deal with your points in the order raised:
  1. Q. YOU REVERTED ALL MY EDITS AND DELETED ALL MY PICTURES?
    A. Is that a question or a statement? Anyway, yes, I deleted all of the images you uploaded and reverted the edits adding them into articles.
  2. Q. WHY THE HECK DID YOU DO THAT?
    A. Because they were inappropriate (see below).
  3. Q. I HATE YOU!
    A. You're entitled to feel however you want towards me. I'm not here to be liked. However, it's not appropriate to express such sentiments here, and if you'd said this to any other user than myself I would have blocked you without warning.
  4. Q. DID YOU REALLY NEED TO DO THAT?
    A. Erm... yes, I'm afraid so.
  5. Q. HONESTLY, WHAT WAS THAT FOR?
    A. The quality of the wiki.
Let me just say that I appreciate the sentiment behind your edits; you showed great enthusiasm. However, there were a number of issues:
The newly added image on the left is clearly a poorer quality duplicate of the pre-existing image
  1. The images were of poor quality (blurred, discoloured and distorted)
  2. They were extremely large (file size and dimensions)
  3. They were positioned poorly on the pages
  4. Many duplicated images already present (see right)
  5. Although you weren't to know this, I have 80 high quality images on my HDD of all of the remaining figurines. That I haven't made time to upload them yet is partly due to the fact that much of my time here is spent patrolling edits and not contributing myself.
I apologise if you feel aggrieved, but I have to do what's best for article quality, and unfortunately your edits decreased the quality of those articles. (P.S. BLOCK CAPITALS ARE NEVER AN APPROPRIATE FORM OF EXPRESSION) —Adam (talk) 17:19, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

1. Question. 2. How could they be inappropriate? 3. Ok, thanks for telling me. 4. Darn. 5. Thanks, I will now avoid uploading dupliates. 6. Will you please help me fix this? 7. Same as 6. 8. Where should I put them, then? 9. Same as 5. 10. Ok then.

Thanks for the explaination. I will try to get better quality on my images.

Thanks

The nomination for the Pedestal of Time was the first nomination I ever did on this site and since I'm new, it's good to see I did something right here. Thanks for nominating that and, by the way, would you like to be friends?

--Seablue254 15:43, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

Hey, you're in luck; my default setting is "friend" :) —Adam (talk) 17:06, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

Thanks :)--Seablue254 19:32, 3 April 2008 (EDT)

how do you make someone a friend--Zanramon ( ' .' ) look its kirby ['_>'] 16:31, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

You ask them if they want to be freinds or get to know them and then you just kind of become freinds overtime.--Link hero of light 18:52, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

How do you do that?

How do you get your signature to say Adam when your username is Adamcox82 all the time? Can you teach me how to get mine to say David (My first name)? Oh, and how do you get that little talk thing in parenthesis on the right side of your name to appear? Any help is appreciated.

--Seablue254 15:48, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Well, I'm not Adam, but I can still tell you how to do this. :P Basically, just click "my preferences" in the top-right of the screen, make sure that "Raw signatures" is checked (this will allow you to make whatever signature you want), then in the "Nickname" box, just type in what you want to have appear as your signature, making sure to link your name to your user page (using whateveryouwantyournametobe). The "(Talk)" like Adam has is achieved similarly; just with Talk.
You can test it out after you've saved it by just typing the ~~~~ on a page and clicking Show preview. That way, you don't have to save something that may not have worked. Hope that helps. --Ando (T : C) 15:54, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Ok. now I can get my name to say David. (Check out the signature). However, when i checked on raw signatures, it didn't make the signature a link, but it worked when not checked. Weird? Hm. Anyway, will i need to type out the talk link, or is there a way to do that while still typing the ~? Thanks. --David 17:13, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Well, the "Raw signature" button, when unchecked, automatically makes whatever you type in the Nickname box linked. So you have to actually type the link in the Nickname box, while leaving the Raw signature button checked. For instance, in my Nickname box, I have this: Ando (Talk). The first part gives my name, with the link to my user page, and the second part links to my talk. And all of it is generated with the ~~~~, including the time (which you don't need to do anything special to add). Feel free to copy and paste my code, editing it as you need to. --Ando (T : C) 17:20, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Cool! Thanks Ando, I find this really helpful! It's really cool! I probably be playing around with this until I find something I like, but this is helpful! Thanks again! --David (Talk) 17:42, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Hey, no problem. Heh, I just realized that the code I posted was for my old signature; my current one is different. Oh well, it still works, yeah? :P Glad I could help, though. Have fun tweaking it. --Ando (T : C) 18:05, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Dividing the Workload

Yeah, this was something I was thinking about, as well. I know that alternating days might be the best option I can think of, but there still might be issues with that if something unexpected arises that keeps us from the Wiki all day (as was demonstrated by myself yesterday)... But I guess one of us could just pick up the extra slack for that day if that were to happen. So perhaps we should go for that?
Also, thanks for the welcome. :D --Ando (T : C) 17:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cool, well to start with do you wanna take care of today's edits and I'll mark up everything left over from yesterday? Then we could just alternate from there. And yeah, we can just play it by ear if one of us is away for a while. Also, I'm gonna make an assumption that your recent changes is set to "advanced" (groups edits of the same article), and that you've spotted your new "hide patrolled" feature? —Adam (talk) 17:37, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds good. We'll go with that.
Also, I've found the "Hide patrolled edits" button, but... not the "advanced". From your description it sounds awesome. Where do I find this miracle button? :O --Ando (T : C) 18:13, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Scratch that. I found it. I'm honestly not sure how it helps, though (I can't even find the "mark as patrolled" button in this state). Think I might just stick with the regular format. --Ando (T : C) 18:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oops, it would've helped if I'd actually told you the right name :) What I'm guessing you realised I was getting at was the Enhanced recent changes option in Preferences under Recent Changes. It has advantages and disadvantages over the regular view, and it took me a while to get used to. But I find it a lot easier to be able to view all multiple changes to an article at one straight from Recent Changes, without them being scattered all over. Anyway, whichever you prefer, it's just useful to know it's there if you need it. Also, do you use Firefox? I could recommend some excellent time-saving plugins I use if you wanted ;) —Adam (talk) 21:09, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question on template

I saw today that you helped make the templates on how to give credit for images. My question is.. on userboxes, will i need to use those templates on them, or will the change on the pictures page automatically update my image? Or is it just supposed to go on the pictures page and not the actual picture? Thanks for listening. --David (T : C) 19:32, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Erm, if I've understood what I think you're asking, the new image templates should only be used on stuff in the "image" namespace. If that's not very clear, think of it like this: if the address/URL bar shows http://www.zeldawiki.org/Image:....., then it needs a template. Otherwise, don't use one :) —Adam (talk) 21:09, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I understand it now. I thought that the template was actually supposed to be on the image. So i thought that i would have to open up the image in paint and actually paint something on to the image of my userboxes. I now see how stupid my question was ;) --David (T : C) 21:33, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Voting on Articles

If you have nominated a featured article in one month, are you allowed to make a vote in that same month? Or does the nomination count as a vote for the article nomination? --David (T : C) 19:13, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nominating an article or picture is entirely separate from your one vote per month. There's no limitations on nomination, other than that no more than four pictures may be nominated at any one time. There's currently no maximum limit on article nominations. For clarity, the maximum that you can do in any single calendar month is:
  1. Unlimited article nominations (within reason)
  2. Unlimited picture nominations (up to the max. limit of four nominees at once)
  3. One article vote & one picture vote (not for anything you've nominated or previously voted for)
  4. Unlimited article & picture oppositions (one per article/picture, with reasoning/justification)

Images

User_talk:Green_Tunic#Images

Oh yeah sorry. I've been in and out a lot so I've missed a few things. Um that Zant picture I uploaded, I captured it from a movie would that mean I captured it? If you want to know I got it from the final part of the Zelda Retrospective on Gametrailers.--Green 20:52, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, if you captured an image either directly from the game or from a video on the interweb, that makes it legitimately your work/effort. Same goes if you sufficiently edit an image (e.g crop, resize and add transparency). I added your name to the Zant image ;) —Adam (talk) 08:57, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry 'bout that

Hey, sorry for leaving all of that work over the past day and a half or so to you; I suddenly got really sick yesterday, and I'm still recovering. I should be back in full force here soon. ;) --Ando (T) 17:53, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, no problem! I've been doing it on my own for 9 months or so, so it's just nice to have some help :) (not trying to sound like a martyr ;) P.S. get well soon! —Adam (talk) 21:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Plugins

I just noticed the new userbox you have. I just noticed that you mentioned something about time saving plugins a while ago. I have been using the safari browser, though since I now notice that firefox has some useful plugins, can I know them ;)? Also, since you have some good userboxes, I have a US userbox you could use if you like? --David (T : C) 18:28, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, the plugins I was talking about were things like:
Mainly I use them for opening and managing large amounts of tabs when patrolling edits, but they're also useful for adding templates to bulk images, for example. Also, thanks for offering the new template, but I actually live in the UK ;) —Adam (talk) 20:37, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cool. Thanks for the plugins. By the way, I think the UK is pretty cool. They have great things, great people (like you), and especially great prog rock bands, like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (Who is actually on my user page because I have a video of them performing a song). Thanks again :) --David (T : C) 20:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks man! XD —Adam (talk) 21:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem! And good plugins. --David (T : C) 21:25, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey was wondering...

Why did you delete my addition to the Nyeve page..I put it under theory cuz it is a theory so its not really wrong. unless you deleted it for another reason like the way I wrote it...if you did you could have just changed it to make it better I don't mind and if it is cuz of the theory thing..what would you put it under?

Well, the theory seemed a little obscure and far fetched to me (triumph forks = a big fork on a stick?), but the biggest reason I removed the edit rather than calling for it to be improved/revised was that in writing it, you deleted all the categories for that article! Just be careful next time you edit not to over-type anything that's already there - it all has a purpose, even if it doesn't seem to you to be useful ;) —Adam (talk) 05:56, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

oooh ya after writing this I realized I did that...it was actually my first time writing so my bad.....but what else would that weapon be based on....I mean why not give him a crappy sword or just one that looks like the master sword..thats why I thought it must have some relevance....but Ill try and find out more bout it and if I cant find anything else then ill let it go cya later o by the way how do u make it so ur name appears after ur message like that

Hi, adding your name after comments on talk pages is called a signature, and it's highly encouraged that you always sign all comments (but never on articles themselves). For instructions, you can check what I wrote here, or ask me if you need any help :) —Adam (talk) 11:36, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template

I don't mind you changing the template one bit. Just thanks for telling me. In fact, it seems a lot better now! Why didn't I think of that?! But thanks :) --David (T : C) 19:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question

Well, as you may know, I have made a couple of userboxes. However, since I usually copy and paste stuff from another userbox into mine, I don't exactly know what everything means. For example, after looking at you Firefox userbox, i was wondering what "firefoxuser2" on the template did to it. So I was wondering, if you had the time, could you tell me what everything on the userbox code stands for? Since I am serious about this, I would really want to know. Thanks! And by the way, why do i have this green double-underlines on some words that pop up with ads? Is there any way to turn them off? Anyway, thanks very much! :) --David (T : C) 21:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'll answer the second question first (because it's easier!); the answer is here.
With the userboxes, I get the feeling that most of what's confusing you is the CSS elements. A quick answer to the particular point you asked about (id) is here. Let me know if you want some more comprehensive help with understanding CSS, and I can point you in the right direction. But my knowledge also is limited, and based mainly on my experience editing various templates here. —Adam (talk) 19:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, i have no more pop up green words. But the userbox link is not helping me. I thing i don't understand is that when i click edit on your firefox userbox, there is a little bit of text in the whole code that reads "firefoxuser2" (with the double apostrophies) and i don't know what that does to the code. Please tell me why you inserted that. I will play around with the code to try to figure it out though. P.S. I can't seem to upload the new images. Can you do that for me? --David (T : C) 20:01, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You're focusing on the wrong part - what's important is id="firefoxuser2"
The text is secondary. The id tag tells you that this is the unique identifier for the element within which it is contained (in this case everything in between {| |} )
Like I said, the key to really understanding it's purpose is to understand CSS, which is not easy. In short, it must be there for the template to work, and it must be something unique to that template. Hope this helps a little. —Adam (talk) 20:14, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, i guess it helps. I just don't see what it does, since i removed it and hit show preview, yet nothing changed. I guess it's because i'm 12 and you're 25. :) --David (T : C) 20:33, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can you update my images for me? I can't seem to upload the new images. --David (T : C) 23:33, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you :) --David (T : C) 12:25, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

gotta change

Hey I wanted to change something about this page http://zeldawiki.org/Seal_War because it seems like its more of an ocarina based theory of what happened during the seal war. I just think there should be a separate article only talking about the seal war as it is mentioned in the manual of ALttP and any other references...while also adding some speculation but not so much as this page already has....the problem is its already such a big page and has another thing redirected to it so I dont know how to change it but I only wanted to change it to Ocarina Seal War theory or something...maybe have a link to it in the new seal war page that should be made or just shorten it and add it to the new one at least. I mean must we read the entire ocarina story just for the seal war which we still hardly know about? anyways I just was asking you cuz I dont know exactly how to go about doing that, what do you think? Template:Nosig

The page you're asking about (Imprisoning War) is quite problematic. It was written in its entirety by a somewhat persistent user who has provoked controvery with his previous edits. In essence, the page is good. However, it's in my opinion it's far too long and treats the subject in too much depth, including too much ancillary material. Also, as you've pointed out it mentions only one telling of the tale. Furthermore, it cites no sources. I don't know what the solution is; it's not a viable permanent solution to have two pages on the "same" topic as you've suggested. These would need to be merged. However neither is it practical to integrate additional info into such a gargantuan article. I think that the general discussion here needs to be continued in order to reach a conclusion. Also, please could you sign your posts on talk pages? For help, check the message I left on your talk page ;) —Adam (talk) 19:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well

I guess you could say that Template:noclog was a good idea! it got rid of many unneeded wanted pages! --David (T : C) 13:10, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I considered doing that a while back, but then I got lazy, and then I forgot ;) —Adam (talk) 13:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem. And just literally a second ago, i found this. I suggest all of us who want to communicate quickly use it. When you install it, try going to moznet then type /join #Zeldawiki. Since it's a free chat program, we can use our usernames as nicknames, considering nobody has it, and talk in real time. --David (T : C) 13:46, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have been looking at it, and apparently, I can give operator status on it. I'll give all sysops and bureaucrats operator status. But if I'm going to give you guys control, can i please keep operator status? --David (T : C) 14:13, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ads

Well, I thought I'd come to a sysop (or however you spell the word) with this question: Recently (as recently as last night), green hyperlinks have begun popping up throughout the Wiki, and when my mouse glides over these, an ad pops up, trying to advertise something. Why, even as I'm editing there's one sitting just underneath this window. My question is, why are they here? Apart from the obvious reason of advertising Yuvorias, 22:14, 20 April 2008 (EST)

I think they might be here to help Jason make a profit on this site in case anything bad happens since you never know. Look here for a news article and go here for the website to turn them off. (Hint:go on the tab that says "disable ads") --David (T : C) 12:31, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dare I?

I was wanting to get some feedback from the questions I left at http://zeldawiki.org/Talk:Kaepora_Gaebora I don't want anger the community by deleting the Rauru reference, but imo it shouldn't be there.Axiomist 16:48, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm not Adam, but still, remember this is a wiki. You are free to make edits as you wish. If the community dosen't like it, they will undo your edit. It really only takes one click. So theres really no way you can hurt the community. Fell free to wait for Adam's opinion, but go ahead and edit :) --Seablue254 16:55, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, I was worried. I'll do some productive stuff first tho.Axiomist 17:08, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem --Seablue254 17:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Axiomist, you're probably right. It was a pretty tenuous theory, and better that it be removed since it cannot be verified. Depending upon which "timeline theory" is adhered to, it could be argued (equally vaguely) that he is the reincarnation of Sahasralah, since their names are almost kinda similar-ish ;p
Anywho, just a tip in relation to the link you made above. There's no need to use full html links for any page at the wiki (or at wikipedia, for that matter). Simply take the title from the top of the required page, enclose within and you have an interwiki link. In the case above, this would be Talk:Kaepora Gaebora. You can also "pipe" the link, allowing it to be renamed but still point to the same place. This would be some random text. --Adamcox82 18:09, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Adam, I just thought I'd let you know I got your message, and have replied on my talk Page. So thanks for that. I couldn't help but notice on your user page, that you're stuck on MQ's Water Temple. It is hard.. but if you want to skip it in just a few minutes here's my advice. After you've meet Ruto, get the water up to the half way level, then sink under water and go back to the rooms Ruto was in. Float up to the platfrom, and bomb the wall. Use the hookshop to shoot a pattern on the back wall (Use Navi), and a chest will appear with the Longshot. Now raise the water to the top, and longshot over to the platform leading to the boss chamber. Once in the room with the hill, and metal things, use the longshot to hit a switch above the door. Then longshot onto the pole that appears atop the hill. With your sword drawn, side jump off the pole, and press B and forward, and you should get through the door, without the boss key. It may take a few tries. Then just defeat Morpha, and the temple is finished, with the Longshot needed for later. I told you I knew my glitches... :-).

Regards,

Nice tip, thanks! I dislike the Water Temple anyway, and the MQ version just seems unnecessarily over-complex! It must be at least 6 months now since I got frustrated and shelved the game - maybe I'll revisit it sometime soon - I just seem to have almost no free game-playing time any more (probably down to the time I spend here ;) You may have gathered that I'm a bit of a defeatist - I've lost track of the number of games (Zelda- or otherwise) that I've completed to like 95%, then saved before the final boss fight, never to be completed! I guess I must be final-boss-phobic... Adamcox82 19:24, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No problem with the tip. Anytime. I can see where you're coming from. I was playing WW last night, and well, it doesn't seem to 'thrill' me anymore. Once you've played them, Wiki and ZU is the way to go. I, like you do, quit Majora's mask a few times, and it probably took me over a year to actually finish, unlike WW, which took a week. Mozilla Firefox

Hi Adam. Just curious after reading this you typed.

Or use a better browser, like the fox!

I'm using internet Explorer 7.something, but my computer does have Firefox installed, as I had to use that once while Internet explorer was being fixed. I can say I honestly like Mozilla's layout, but do you know the actual differences? What advantages and downsides are there to firefox? I'm considering a browser change!... --Melchizedek 05:32, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
