Anju's Mother appears in Majora's Mask, and is a middle-aged, rounded woman. When she hears that Kafei has disappeared a month before his wedding to Anju, she resents him for having hurt her daughter the way that she herself was hurt, for it seems that Anju's Mother's husband also vanished from her life. [1]

If the Kafei-Anju quest is underway and on track, Anju's mother will not be seen until the Third Day, except for in an obscure cutscene on the Second Night. If it is not underway, she will be seen running the Stock Pot Inn on the Second Day, while Anju goes out to weep over Kafei's disappearance.

Anju's mother, although seeming to want what is best for Anju, tends to try to bend Anju to her will, making her do what she herself would do.

Cutscene

There is an obscure cutscene that may be witnessed on the Second Night, at 9:30pm. If Link is in the rented room, by pressing A on the ruined part of the wallpaper at this time, the player will witness a scene in which Anju's mother expresses her belief that Kafei has run off with Cremia, and that waiting for him will result in nothing. Anju insists that in Kafei's letter he promised to return, but Anju's mother insists in forgetting about the letter and that she should just try to survive. [2]

During the cutscene, she also blames herself for Anju's naivety in waiting for Kafei due to the fact that she, too, also believed her husband would return after having disappeared.[1] Despite that she may show resentment and hatred for Kafei and his disappearance, she is saddened that the wedding will not happen, and instead they will spend their day taking refuge in Romani's Ranch. [3]

This cutscene is considered obscure due to its time-activation, as well as having to be in a certain spot and perform a certain action at this time.

Trivia

  • Anju's mother reacts angrily to the Kafei's Mask, telling Link to not speak to her with "that unpleasant mask on!"[4]
  • Anju's mother is finally shown at Anju's wedding, showing that despite her objections, she has come to be with her daughter on the important day.
  • It is not shown how Anju's mother reacts when Kafei returns, so her full views on the wedding now are never heard.
