Baby Gohma

From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia

Gohma Larva are recurring enemies that first appear in Ocarina of Time, where they hatch from small egg sacs laid by Gohma.

Appearances

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, Gohma Larva are found hatching from eggs on the ceiling in a huge circular room before the boss and laid by Queen Gohma. They are also found throughout the Deku Tree and in the Dodongo's Cavern in Master Quest. To defeat these arachnids, Link can either pick their eggs off with the slingshot or beat them off with the sword.

The Wind Waker

Main article: Magtail

In The Wind Waker, Magtails are the offspring of that game's version of Gohma. Unlike their cousins, they can be found in many places, even ones far away from the queen.

Twilight Princess

Gohma Larva, as well as Young Gohma, also make an appearance in Twilight Princess within the Temple of Time. Young Gohma have somewhat more developed forms, having four legs, but they are still rather easy to fend off. Gohma Larva, also called Baby Gohma, are an even smaller version of the Young Gohma. These spiders appear as small round bodies with tiny protruding legs and the traditional single eye on the front. They are seen in parts of the Temple of Time and travel in huge swarms of at least thirty. Taking them out at first becomes troublesome as they run away continuously, and the combination of their small size and large numbers makes eliminating every last one in a swarm difficult. If L-targeting is used to target a single one, other ones will come from behind and do damage. Once Link obtains the Dominion Rod and seizes control of the statue in the same room he obtains the rod, using the statue to kill the Baby Gohmas becomes much easier for him. They also hatch from Gohma eggs when Link encounters the boss of the Temple of Time, Armogohma. They behave differently though, and instead of running away, they will attempt to swarm Link as a distraction to give Armogohma enough time to release her laser-beam attack upon him. They will also try to protect Armogohma when she changes into her eyeball form.

Trivia

The Gohma Larvae in Twilight Princess resemble Mitites from Pikmin 2 in both appearance and movements.
