Unlike standard Bombs and Water Bombs, Bomblings are entirely optional as an item, as opposed to their use in the Forest Temple. At no point in the game is Link required to carry them in order to proceed, and there is no task in the game, mandatory or not, that can only be accomplished with Bomblings, again excluding their non-item appearance in the Forest Temple.
