HTLOZ II is the latest successor to Hyrule: The Land of Zelda, following Gamer Crossfire and The Fallout Shelter. It was founded in March 2005 by Fury Three, Tempest, and IceSage. The web site is still technically considered a Zelda fan site, but has shifted focus to the community forums.

While HTLOZ II still maintains its content archives, in early 2008 the site dropped its homepage in favor of the forums.
In late 2008, IceSage was replaced with Captain Cornflake, of VGRC and ZeldaInformer. In March 2009, the site was moved to VGRC's server, signifying the growing alliance between the two communities.
