Zelda Classic is a fan game creation software released by Phantom Menace. The software was released in 1999 as freeware. The purpose of this program was to tribute The Legend of Zelda. The website is hosted by Armageddon Games.

Information

The Zelda Classic was designed to allow fans of the game to produce their own Zelda adventures. The engine allows for an overworld and underworld, using the creation of multiple map levels. Creators may also design their own sprites to be used in the game, along with their own MIDI sequences to be used. Users have the freedom to design the dungeons. However, though sprites may be altered, the same enemies from Legend of Zelda are to be used. A timer in the game is used to determine how much time has been used; however, the designers may not alter the clock so it counts. Zelda Classic has also been used to create non Zelda games, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Donkey Kong. The game is currently released in version 2.1 for Windows and DOS platforms. In 2009, Zelda Classic won the 2009 Exploding Deku Nut Golden Item Awards, winning the Golden Deku Nut, symbolising its creativeness.
