The Dark Interlopers were a tribe of sorcerers, who in ancient times, had sought to attempt to control the Sacred Realm and ultimately the Triforce using a powerful relic called the Fused Shadow. In response to such audacity, the Goddesses of Hyrule ordered the three Light Spirits, Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru to seal up the power they had mastered, thus rendering the interlopers powerless. Fearing the goddesses, they were chased from Hyrule to the Gerudo Desert where they were eventually banished by the Goddesses of Hyrule, presumingly by the Mirror of Twilight. This tribe would eventually become the Twili race due to their adaptations to the realm's light. They were mentioned to Link by the Spirit of Light Lanayru, who spoke of the dangers of wielding the Fused Shadow in Twilight Princess.
Backstory
In the cutscene following the revival of Lanayru, Dark Link seems to play a role as the Dark Interlopers. As well, a clear eyed Link and Ilia are seen, more than likely representing the non-interlopers who had the lust to seek out the power of the Triforce. The clear eyed Ilia draws up a crooked blade dagger as if to strike the Link beside her, but it seems that the clear eyed Link was quicker, stabbing her in her throat and plunging the sword into the ground. After his victorious 'battle', Link is then seen running towards the Triforce, presumingly wanting to obtain its power, but is stopped by three Dark Links, the Dark Interlopers. These interlopers then use their magic to eradicate this Link, but a moment after, the Link is on their side, probably to show that even those outside the interlopers joined them on their quest for the Triforce. It was at that moment that Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru descended onto the scene, sealed their power, and then removed them from the existence in the Light World.
Other Information
This form of Dark Link is also seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as playable costumes for Link and Toon Link.
• It is possible that the Dark Interlopers could very well be the Gerudo from Ocarina of Time due to the mention of sorcerers as well as the latter Twili race having red hair.
