Collecting Golden Bugs is a long, and sometimes tedious sidequest within Twilight Princess. Collecting them all leads to two wallet upgrades, each with a higher maximum rupee capacity. Scattered across the land are 24 golden insects, collectible in any order. Link cannot buy certain sidequest items, i.e. the Magic Armor, without receiving the Big Wallet, the prize rewarded after collecting and handing over the first bug to "Princess" Agitha, the esteemed bug collector in Hyrule Castle Town. After collecting all the bugs and returning them to Agitha, she shares her "happiness" with Link by giving him the Giant's Wallet, enabling him to carry up to 1000 rupees. The first bug in a male-female pair will earn Link a purple rupee (50), and each completed bug pair earns Link an orange rupee (100).
The golden bugs glow in the dark, so they are easier to find at night, and are attracted to Link's lantern, making them easier to catch. Some of them may be out of reach and Link will need to use the Clawshot or Gale Boomerang to collect them. The collection of golden bugs is an optional sidequest and is not required for completion of the game.
There are 12 types of Golden Bugs, and a male (♂) and female (♀) of each type, for a total of 24 to bring back to Agitha for her golden bug ball. She sings a short, and sometimes disturbing, verse about each bug she receives.
