Characteristics
Series are bat-like creatures that inhabit Series and Series, similarly to their real-life counterparts. Following their debut in TLoZ, they have since become a staple of Series and have appeared in the majority of games with the exception of TAoL, where Series are absent and are instead replaced by the similar Series.
Series often exist in clusters in the places where they are found. They fly around the screen erratically, not heading towards anything in particular, and stop to rest for a short amount of time on a neighboring wall or rock face. In some games, such as ALttP and LA, Series move about the screen only when Series is within close proximity, otherwise they remain still. Later games, such as TWW and TP, introduce Series with a slightly more active attack strategy, targeting Series, but pausing above him before striking, providing an opportunity for him to strike.

As small and commonplace creatures, Series are relatively weak and can be dispatched with a variety of weaponry, from Series and Series to Series and Series.

Keese are the bat like creatures that often flutter about in dungeons. When they spot Link they will come flying in towards him to try and attack him, a quick slash from Link will have the job done. Keese can become flaming Keese when they travel through a torch that is lit, somehow they have a tolerance against heat. They can also become Ice keese, by flying through a blue flame or being in extremely cold environments. They make good target practice for Link's bow.
Series are known to inhabit various forms in adapting to their surrounding environment. Notable variants include Series and Series, which are enveloped in fiery and icy mist, respectively. Less common forms include Series, Series, Series and Series. Series, when defeated, will also split into a pair of Series, which may or may not be fought.

TLoZ inhabit TLoZ in TLoZ. They resemble blue bats, and commonly appear in small to medium-sized groups. TLoZ flutter through rooms in a random path, stopping only periodically to rest. They are also the only enemies that are encountered in the game's side-scrolling chambers, where they can be found resting against the walls before taking flight. TLoZ can be defeated by any weapon in TLoZ's arsenal, including the TLoZ, TLoZ and TLoZ. As they are very small enemies, the TLoZ will also defeat them as opposed to stunning them. TLoZ will split into two red TLoZ when defeated. These TLoZ are fought in the same manner as the common variety. TLoZ never drop any items when defeated.

-
Keese appear in every Dungeon throughout the game, and often litter areas in those Dungeons. They fly around the screen, not heading towards anything in particular, and stop for a short amount of time.

ALttP inhabit ALttP and tunnels in the ALttP of ALttP in ALttP. Unlike their previous incarnation, ALttP remain still along ALttP walls and crevices, but take flight when ALttP draws close. ALttP in - have a more direct flight pattern than previous appearances, soaring in a curving arc as opposed to random flight, before resting again on the next wall. They are also encountered less frequently in groups, though they can still occasionally be found huddled together. They are weak enemies and can be defeated by any means of attack. In the Game Boy Advance version of ALttP, ALttP also appear as enemies in the ALttP.

There are three colors of Keese:
The ALttP counterparts of ALttP are ALttP, which behave identically but are significantly stronger.

* Blue Keese are the most common.
-
* Two Red Keese appear when a Vire is harmed but not killed.
LANS often appear in small groups in LANS and LANS in LA. They remain still until LANS approaches, whereupon they take to the air and fly in a curving arc before briefly stopping to rest. They are much smaller than past appearances, and their darker coloration provides camoflauge against pits and makes them difficult to see. Despite this, LANS are still weak enemies and can be defeated by any attack.
* Black Keese appear in the more advanced dungeons.

Unusual for the Zelda games (wherein color usually indicates the enemy's level of difficulty), the different colors of Keese have the same abilities, stats, and movement patterns.
LANS are a similar enemy summoned by the LANS, and are also referred to as LANS. When LANS are defeated, they will turn into a pair of LANS with skull faces, attempting to dive at LANS before flying away.

In this game, Keese take an approach similar to the Ache of Zelda II, only moving when Link gets close. They aren't as common of an enemy as they used to be. They stay dormant, and fly around when they're approached, stopping after a while. In the Dark World, Keese are replaced with Eye Keese, who behave similarly, but with a vastly different appearance.
OoT3D are much more active than their previous appearances in OoT; most fly around rooms without ever stopping to rest. They can occasionally be found huddled against walls, but take flight when disturbed. OoT3D are also much more aggressive, and will attempt to dive at OoT3D whenever they spot him. Their attacks can be blocked by holding up the OoT3D. OoT3D can be defeated with any conventional weapon; however, due to the 3D environment and their high-altitude flight, OoT3D may have to resort to using ranged weapons such as the OoT3D, OoT3D, OoT3D or OoT3D to reach these enemies. Yet as many are constantly in flight, they can be difficult to aim at without OoT3D. OoT3D in - do not inhabit OoT3D, and are instead only encountered in OoT3D, especially within dark corridors.

Link's Awakening
- also introduces two variations: OoT3D and OoT3D. They are OoT3D that are enveloped in fiery and icy mist, respectively.  Fire Keese will set Link on fire if they hit him and have their flames extinguished by blocking their attacks with the OoT3D. OoT3D freeze Link and retain their flame when blocked by Link's shield.

Keese return to its roots in this game, taking on a darker color, like in The Legend of Zelda. They act similarly to the originals, too, moving around whenever they please, and like the original, they are weak. There are also larger Keese that only appear during the fight with the Grim Creeper, the mini-boss of Dungeon number seven. These are stronger than a regular Keese. The Vire in Turtle Rock turns into Big Keese when destroyed that fly into you and leave.

Keese return as black, yellow-eyed bats, flying high mostly in dungeons. Whenever one sees Link, it will fly down to attack. The easiest way to kill one is to hit it with arrows. There are also Fire Keese, who set Link on fire if they come in contact with him, in addition to burning his Deku Shield; and Ice Keese, who freeze Link if they come in contact. They can be transformed into Fire or Ice Keese (see below).
}}

Majora's Mask
In MM, MM3D appear identically as their - incarnations in MM. They fly through the space they inhabit, and dive at MM3D whenever they spot him. Long-range weapons, such as the MM3D, the MM3D, and the MM3D, are effective against them. They can only be found in a few areas, including MM3D and the MM3D.

Keese remain exactly the same in Majora's Mask as they did in Ocarina of Time, including being mostly found in Dungeons. There are larger forms of Keese that are found outside called Bad Bats, which act the same, but pack a bigger punch. Keese are given a master of sorts in the form of a sub-boss named Gomess, which uses Keese as a cloak.
and MM3D reappear in -, identically to those from -. - also introduces similar enemies called MM3D. These enemies behave similarly to MM3D, but are much larger in size.

Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons
-
OoS closely resemble their - incarnation in OoS, appearing as small, dark-colored bats. They inhabit caverns and OoS in large groups. OoS are easily disturbed, and will fly sporadically around their space. Like those from -, their small size and dark coloration can make them difficult to see, especially over dark pits or against the walls of side-scrolling areas. They can be defeated by any means of attack.

OoS also appear in -. OoS whose flames have been extinguished will revert back into ordinary OoS, though they retain their original flight pattern and can fly through fire to turn back into OoS.
Keese are the same as they were in Link's Awakening. However, they are a lot more erratic than they were in Link's Awakening. Another form of Keese is the Fire Keese, similar to the Fire Keese of past games, and any Keese who encounters fire will become one. They fly higher in the air than Keese, and swoop down on their enemies. Big Keese sometimes accompany the enemy Blue Stalfos.

The Wind Waker
OoS will turn into a pair of OoS with skull faces when it is defeated.

Keese appear more like vampire bats in this game, flying faster than before. They are usually found in dungeons, and also appear as Fire Keese. Unlike other Keese, they do not head straight into their enemy; they wait and prepare to strike. Another difference between these and other Keeses is that the boomerang is the easiest weapon to use to kill them.

The Minish Cap
-
OoA closely resemble their - incarnation in OoA, appearing as small, dark-colored bats. They inhabit caverns and OoA in large groups. OoA are easily disturbed, and will fly sporadically around their space. Like those from -, their small size and dark coloration can make them difficult to see, especially over dark pits or against the walls of side-scrolling areas. They can be defeated by any means of attack.

Keese slowly fly around dark caves and dungeons, with no real strategy. They are easily defeated and of little threat to Link.
OoA also appear in -. OoA whose flames have been extinguished will revert back into ordinary OoA, though they retain their original flight pattern and can fly through fire to turn back into OoA.

Quote from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap Keese figurine:
OoA will turn into a pair of OoA with skull faces when it is defeated.
"Apears in various areas. These bats live in dungeons and caves. Their movement is unperdictable, so use range weapons from a safe distance."

-
Regular, Fire, and Ice Keese return in Twilight Princess. They now have a long tail with a hook on the end, and their attack pattern is similar to that of in The Wind Waker; they do not simply fly at Link and ram into him, but stop short and attack. Like in other games, a single strike from even the weakest weapon can kill it, although the Boomerang will only stun for a moment. Using the Hidden Skill called Shield Attack will ground the Keese, making it hop around on the ground, vulnerable to attack.
TWW

Phantom Hourglass
TWWHD appear in TWWHD and TWWHD in TWW. They constantly fly around the areas they inhabit, and will fly over to TWWHD when they notice him. Their attack strategy differs slightly from previous appearances, and they will pause just before striking TWWHD. Any conventional weapons are effective against them, with long-ranged weapons, such as the TWWHD, the TWWHD, and the TWWHD, necessary to engage them from a distance.

In Phantom Hourglass Keeses return once more in their WW form. They are just as annoying as ever and are found frequently.
TWWHD also appear in -. They can be turned into normal TWWHD by blowing out their flames with the TWWHD.

Variations
-
FSA in FSA are based on those from -. They initially sit still, but fly in a curving path as they are approached by the FSA. They can be found inside caverns and FSA. Unlike other appearances, FSA in - often appear alone or secluded from one another. They can be defeated with a single strike from the FSA.

There are several variations on the regular Keese:
- also introduces a variant called a FSA. These enemies surround the FSA in a trail of copies, and can only be defeated by striking the 's red FSA.

Ache
-
TMC
TMC in TMC appear and behave similarly to those from OoS and OoA. They are small enemies that are easily disturbed and flap about rooms in an unpredictable pattern, stopping only periodically to rest. Unlike other appearances, they have no way to camouflage themselves, and they inhabit TMC and TMC across TMC. Any conventional weapon can defeat them.

-
Though Keese don't appear in The Adventure of Link, Aches, a similar species of bats, do. Aches in this game are usually found in forests. They hang at the top of the screen, waiting for someone to pass, and dive down to attack them. Blue Aches take only one hit to defeat. It should be noted that the official name of these enemies is actually Ache, but they behave like Keese in almost every respect, so they are often confused with them. In certain towns, some Aches disguise themselves as villagers and attack Link when he tries to talk to them. They are called "The Eyes of Ganon".
TPHD in TP more closely resemble real-world bats, but with ghastly features and tattered wings, as well as the addition of a curved hook on their tails. These enemies are constantly in flight as they patrol the space they occupy. Similarly to those of -, TPHD fly at TPHD and pause before striking, giving him an opportunity to attack before they do. As small and lightweight enemies, any weapon in TPHD's arsenal is able to defeat them.

Acheman
and TPHD reappear in -. The TPHD can be used to extinguish their flames and icy mist, turning them back into normal TPHD. TPHD are a TPHD version that only appear in the TPHD.

-
Red Aches that fly down and turn into a red Goblin-like creature. These Aches, called "Acheman", shoot fireballs from their mouth at their prey. They are only able to transform into this state when on solid ground.
PH in PH are common enemies that inhabit PH and PH. Closer to their 3D console appearances, they are constantly in flight and fly in circular, random motions, and often appear in small groups. These enemies can be easily defeated merely by striking them with the PH, though many other weapons are also effective at dispatching them.

and PH reappear in -.

Bad Bat
-
ST commonly appear in groups within ST and ST. They constantly fly in random circular motions, but can be quickly defeated with most ST. Two additional varieties of ST appear: and ST. Both of these varieties can be neutralized with the ST, turning them into regular ST.

-
Bad Bats are larger variants of Keese found in Majora's Mask. They seem to prefer outdoor environments, as oppossed to the cave or dungeon-dwelling Keese. They are more powerful than regular Keese, as well.

SS in SS patrol the areas they reside in while in flight high above. When they notice SS, they fly down to his level, and pause before attacking. Their distinctive yellow eyes will glow red just before they strike. SS can defeated with simple SS strikes, as well as shot down from the sky using long-range weapons such as the SS, SS and SS.

- also features several other variations of SS, including SS and two new forms: SS and SS. SS are an electrified variant, whereas SS are a skeletal variant that are able to SS SS.

-
ALBW in ALBW are closely based on their - incarnation. They sit quietly, taking to the air only when approached. ALBW will generally make for ALBW's direction as they fly. As before, any conventional weapon is able to dispel or otherwise stun them. If left alone, they will return to their original positions.

-
TFH in TFH behave similarly to their 3D console appearances. They patrol their territory in short, circular paths, yet when they spot one of the TFH, they will back away before swiftly diving at them to attack. They can be defeated or stunned by any weapons in the TFH' possession.

and TFH both appear in -. It is possible to use the TFH to turn them into regular TFH.

Fire Keese
-
When Keese are exposed to an open flame, they can transform into Fire Keese. In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask Keese can be transformed by fire arrows or torches (although regular arrows can kill Keese or Fire Keese easily). They will light Link on fire, simultaneously putting themselves out. In Twilight Princess, they are almost identical to Keese. The only difference between the two is Link does not take damage if he touches a regular Keese when its not attacking, whereas he will if they touch Fire Keese. They can be put out with the Gale Boomerang, but they do not go out when attacking Link.
BotW appear in BotW as bat-like BotW with sharp teeth and a single, glowing eye. They can potentially drop BotW or BotW when defeated. BotW are found during nighttime, and sometimes on the roofs of BotW. They will often attack in swarms. a BotW when it charges at BotW will instantly kill it.

Ice Keese
, , and BotW also reappear in -. These drop BotW, BotW, and BotW, respectively, as well as BotW.

Ice Keese are Keese exposed to cold, such as an ice arrow or blue fire (a regular arrow kills them and can kill Keese, as well). In Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, they freeze Link and return to normal, similar to Fire Keese. In Twilight Princess, Ice Keese cannot be changed into regular Keese, nor can regular Keese be transformed into Ice Keese.

When blown away using a BotW, BotW will momentarily fall to the ground before they start flying again.

Shadow Keese are only found in the Twilight Realm in Twilight Princess. The have dragon-like bodies and strange, funnel shaped heads surrounded by a ring of gray plummage. Their faces are featureless save for red symbols. The appear to be identical to Shadow Kargaroks, except for the fact that they are smaller and weaker. As with many Shadow creatures, Shadow Keese have a distinctive cry; rather than the squeaking of the other Keese variations, Shadow Keese make a noise reminiscent of a hammer clashing on metal.

Vires are large, blue bat creatures that hop around aimlessly. They're only found in Dungeons, and when harmed, split into two red-colored Keese, which float around the room like regular Keese.  After dispatching the red Keese, if a player exits and immediately returns to a room, the Vires will all be back, since they haven't truly been killed. If it is hurt by the arrow, magical sword, or any weapon that does at least four damage, it will instead die.

A Keese has a major role in the Oracle of Seasons manga, flying off to warn Onox of Link's potential after Blaino's defeat, while having a Crow (Named Crowley) plant Manhandla to handle him. He later reports to Onox after Medusa Head is defeated and Link's progress through the northern mountains, earning a near death brush from his weapon and a berating to secure the perimeter, instead of reporting to him.
End

Vires rarely appear in only one dungeon, the eighth dungeon, Turtle Rock. They fly around shooting Fireballs, which can be blocked with a Sword swipe, and after three or four of them, will swoop down at Link. Three blows will take it out, and cause it to explode into two Big Keese.  A zap from the magic wand kills it without causing it to split.
