The Magic Mirror is an item given to Link in A Link to the Past when he travels to Death Mountain. He acquires the mirror by helping the lost Old Man find his way to the safe house on the mountain. Link is able to use this magical mirror to travel from the Dark World back to the Light World. Once returned to the Light World, he can go back to the Dark World by touching the sparkling "X" point that appears where he returned to the Light World. This "X" can also be located by using the map. The mirror is essential to getting to the Tower of Hera, the third dungeon in A Link to the Past.
The Magic Mirror is given to Link after helping the Lost Old Man find his way to the safe house in Death Mountain. It is used to travel from the Dark World back to the Light World. When returned to the Light World, Link can go back to the Dark World by touching the sparkling spot that appears where he returned to the Light World. This spot can also be located by using the map. The Magic Mirror is essential when getting to the Tower of Hera. If Link would end up in a location in the Light World where he cannot stand, such as inside the wall, the mirror will automatically send him back to the Dark World.

One more function of the Magic Mirror is that it can warp Link back to the beginning of any dungeon if he uses it while inside. This is comparable to the the function on Manbo's Mambo in Link's Awakening.
Link can also use the Magic Mirror to warp back to the entrance of any dungeon if used while inside of it.

Other Names
The Dark Mirror makes its first and only appearance in the the Four Sword Adventures.  According to the White Maiden, it is said to reveal the evil that lies within a person, bringing it to life. This is true, as the Dark Mirror used to spawn the Shadow Links which plagues Hyrule and Link throughout the game.

When first mentioned by Dampé, the mirror is revealed to have sealed away a dark tribe a long time ago. The Mirror was then hidden away in a temple in the Forest of Light,  in order to seal it away from the world. Their suspicion is confirmed by the Red Knight. <ref>{{cite|The man that defeated us is also the same man who created that shadowy imp. Upon arriving in Realm of the Heavens, The Dark Cloud, in a final clash against Shadow Links, Link and Zelda finally manages to retrive the mirror. This in turn leads to the end of Shadow Links havoc in Hyrule.

Connections to the Mirror of Twilight
The Dark Mirror shares some common elements with a more famous mirror, namely the Mirror of Twilight. Both mirrors sealed away a dark tribe in the ancient days.
There is also some similarity in the evil inducing nature the mirrors has on its enviroment. Altough the Dark Mirrors spawns evil Shadow Links, while the Mirror of Twilight seem to possess people and things, like Yeta.
Although there is an interesting allusion in Twilight Princess, where the Dark Tribe makes an cameo appears as Shadow Links, in Lanaryus tale of them.

The appearance of the two mirrors as round with a golden frame is also a similar attribute. Although its hard to ascertain just how similar their physical appearance are, because of the graphical differences between Four Sword Adventures and Twilight Princess.

As for whether the mirrors were actually meant potray the same mirror, is a matter of much dispute in the Zelda communities. Some deem it impossible, as Midna in Twilight Princess destroys the Mirror of Twilight at the end of the game. Others sees this as evidence that Four Sword Adventures does not occur after the Twilight Princess.
