A classic Zelda item. Four Pieces of Heart are required to form one Heart Container in most Zelda games. Pieces of Heart are scattered all across Hyrule and the subsidaries of the mainland. Link can usually acquire a Piece of Heart by completing a task, reaching an out-of-the-way area through use of a special item, or from within dungeons and temples.  Pieces of Heart are usually part of a sidequest related to the game but are not at all necessary to the game's completion.

They are collected to form a full Series, extending Series's maximum health by one Series.

Like their complete contemporaries, the Heart Containers, collecting a Picece of Heart refills the health of the player to maximum. With all boss-held Heart Containers and individual pieces of heart collected, it is possible to obtain a total of 20 hearts in the majority of the game.
OTOC

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess breaks the tradition set in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and requires that five Pieces of Heart be collected to complete a Heart Container. This game is also set apart from the others in that upon collecting the pieces, health is only partially restored.
Location and Uses
Improve
Pieces of Heart were first seen in ALttP, and have since appeared in almost every other title following it. Pieces of Heart are scattered throughout the world. They can be found in Series, won in Series, purchased, or given to Link after completing a Side Quest. In many games, a Heart Container can form by collecting four Pieces of Heart. Obtaining a Piece of Heart will immediately refill all of Link's health, regardless of whether or not that Piece of Heart is completing a Heart Container. The amount of Pieces of Heart depends primarily on how many Heart Containers are in the game; the Pieces of Heart, combined with the Heart Containers, typically add up to a total of 20 Hearts by the end of a game.

It is unknown if any character other than Link understands the use and purpose of the Pieces of Heart, or if any character other than Link can use the Pieces of Heart, as very few characters ever have anything to say about them, even when handing them out as rewards. In -, if Link catches the Piece of Heart while fishing in the Fishing Hole, Hena will remark "Whose heart did you catch? You big sweetheart!" In -, Beedle will eventually sell Link a Piece of Heart starting at 1,600 Rupees. If Link asks Beedle about the item so that he can buy it, Beedle will tell him that he does not actually know what it is, and that he found it somewhere nearby. Fortune tellers who give hints leading to the location of Pieces of Heart refer to them as something having to do with love.

Pieces of Heart Location Guides
Although now a series staple, a number of games do not feature Pieces of Heart. FS, FSA and TFH do not have collectible Pieces of Heart, as Heart Containers are not permanent upgrades in those games. PH and ST, despite having permanent Heart Containers, also do not have Pieces of Heart. In BotW, Pieces of Heart are replaced by BotW, and are obtained at the end of every Shrine. Four Spirit Orbs can be traded in for a Heart Container at a Goddess Statue.

-
There are 52 MM3D in MM; the most out of any game in Series. This is due to - featuring fewer MM3D than usual, therefore fewer MM3D.

H-01 Faron Woods<br>
In MM3D, the Sheikah Stone can show Link 23 different MM3D revealing the location of a Piece of Heart that is not received as a reward for completing an action during an Event.
Burn through the Faron Woods swamp's poisonous fog by waving your lantern, and enter the cave in the northwest (where you found the key to the north woods gate). Light two torches at the dead end to make the Piece of Heart appear.

H-02 Forest Temple<br>
-
Drop a bomb into a large plant in the killer-plant-filled chamber that is northeast of the Forest Temple entrance. The giant bud will explode, giving you access to a ground-level alcove and a treasure chest.
OoS

H-03 Forest Temple<br>
-
Use the Gale Boomerang to put out the torches in the far east Forest Temple chamber, where creatures wait under floor tiles. The wood platforms in the room will drop, allowing you a clear path to the Piece of Heart.
OoA

H-04 Hyrule Field<br>
-
Venture to the south end of the bridge in the middle of Hyrule Field. Equip the Gale Boomerang and investigate the trees in the area with your first-person view. You'll find a heart floating near the branches of one of the trees. Use the boomerang to retrieve it.
There are 44 TWWHD in TWW. The Sea and Island Hearts Charts reveal the location in both the sea and on islands.

H-05 Ordon Village<br>
The Japanese version of - has different locations for some of the TWW:
After restoring light to Eldin Province, you'll regain the use of your horse, Epona. Any time after that, go to the ranch during the day, call Epona and talk to Fado. He'll ask you to herd the goats, and will give you a gift after a successful run.
*The TWW under TWW contains a TWW instead of 100 TWW. In the North American and European versions, this TWW was moved to the bottom of the TWW which originally contained only 10 TWW.
*The TWW at the center of TWW contains a TWW instead of TWW. In the North American and European versions, this TWW in turn is the reward for TWW, instead of just a few TWW.How Many
*The TWW on one of the small islands at TWW contains a TWW instead of TWW. In the North American and European versions, this TWW in turn is the reward for placing 14 TWW across TWW, instead of 100 TWW.

H-06 Hyrule Field<br>
-
Look for a tall rock formation that towers over the east end of Kakariko Gorge. You'll find a Heart Piece floating above it. Target the prize with your boomerang, then send the boomerang across the gap to add the piece to your collection.
Four TMC are required to form a new TMC in TMC. A total of 44 TMC can be found throughout TMC, with some appearing in TMC, atop beanstalks grown from TMC, and within TMC. Some cannot be accessed until specific TMC are performed.
