Link met Rauru after opening the Door of Time and drawing the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time. Rauru recognized Link as the destined hero and kept him with him in the Sacred Realm for seven years, so that, in the safety of the Light Temple, he would become old enough to actually assume the role of hero. Rauru spoke with Link for the first time after those seven years, informing him of what had happened and what he was supposed to do as the hero. After instructing him to awaken the other Sages, Rauru gave him the Light Medallion. OoT3D named the temple after the SSHD from the legends of the events of SS about a who had wielded the SSHD and traveled between two time periods. He chose to remain within the OoT3D, situated in the center of the OoT3D, only leaving it in the form of the wise and watchful owl known as OoT3D. Knowledge of the OoT3D passed onto the OoT3D tribe and OoT3D's name faded into obscurity.

Rauru did not contact Link until he had freed the other five Sages, but failed to protect the seventh Sage, Princess Zelda, from Ganondorf who kidnapped her. Rauru instructed Link to save Zelda and told him that he and the other Sages would aid him by providing entrance to Ganon's Castle. Finally, Rauru led the other Sages when they used their powers to seal away Ganondorf.

After OoT3D defeats OoT3D in a failed attempt to save the OoT3D, he leaves the OoT3D and has his first encounter with OoT3D, who awaits him in his owl form as OoT3D at the edge of the woods. The owl gives him encouragement on the adventure the OoT3D has tasked him with and advises him to visit OoT3D at OoT3D before leaving with a promise that they will meet again.

Unlike the other Sages, Rauru was not seen at the ending of Ocarina of Time, possibly indicating that he stayed in the Light Temple.

Kaepora Gaebora
True to his word, OoT3D often appears to tell OoT3D about a new area whenever the young hero comes upon it, and he picks OoT3D up and carries him twice when OoT3D could not progress on his own. Once OoT3D reaches the OoT3D, after navigating between the eras of his childhood and adulthood, OoT3D compliments him on his growth and bids farewell after giving one final piece of advice on how to defeat the witches, OoT3D.
It is believed by some that Kaepora Gaebora is the physical manifestation of Rauru outside of the Sacred Realm, which he uses to travel Hyrule. One argument for this theory is that a Gossip Stone refers to Kaepora Gaebora as "the reincarnation of an ancient Sage". Some also consider the quote of another Gossip Stone, that Kaepora Gaebora's "character is rather lighthearted", a reference to Rauru's position as the Sage of Light.

When OoT3D drew the OoT3D from the OoT3D, OoT3D entered the OoT3D and obtained the OoT3D from the OoT3D. The OoT3D transformed into the OoT3D, with the exception of the OoT3D. TotK and TotK travel TotK to investigate the TotK seeping out from TotK's body.

After TotK defeats the TotK, the TotK of TotK and TotK appear to him. They channel their powers of TotK and TotK through TotK to reverse TotK's transformation into the TotK and the damage done to TotK's arm by TotK's TotK. With the defeat of TotK and the future of TotK saved, TotK and TotK both fade into the afterlife.
