Rito

The Rito are the peaceful bird-like creatures of Dragon Roost island, the volcanic island located in the Great Sea. While many have the theory that they have evolved from the Zoras when Hyrule was flooded, The Wind Waker hints that they may have evolved, or interbreed, with, or from, humans. This stems from the Rito, that sorts the mail, looks identical to the mail man from Majora's Mask and his description under his statue hints that they are related, or that he was, in some way, re-incarnated as a Rito.The fledglings grow wings from the great sky spiritnamed Valoo, a dragon at the top of the mountain. Not only have these beautiful creatures adapted to their lifestyle of flight, but they also serve as the mailmen for their mobility and fast-paced travel. This is the most important part of their lifestyle: if they can't deliver the mail, who will? The Rito Chief is the leader of the Ritos, and he tries to figure out how to solve the dilemmas that creep in every direction every so often. His son, Prince Komali, was of age to earn his wings during their greatest dilemma, and his self-esteem had sunk to an all-time low because of his recently deceased grandmother. She was Valoo's attendant, and in Komali's eyes, the only one to help the sky spirit through this problem. Komali now had no desire to do anything, didn't trust anyone, and didn't believe he could get Valoo's scale. There was also a Rito, a girl named Medli, who played an important role. She was Komali's grandmother's apprentice, so she had to help with everything concerning the dragon. She also serves as the Earth Sage when the previous sage's life is taken. With the previous sage being a Zora, this is where most people make the connection between Rito and Zora's. The harp that marks her as the Sage of Earth was said to have been passed down through her blood line, since it originally belonged to a Zora it has a very strong Zora-Rito connection. The Ritos' role in Link's adventure is one of the most important, and they are quite interesting.
