Rune is character who has only appeared in the original Legend of Zelda Manga. He was an Elf, and at that time, Elfs were greatly despised by the Hylians. However, that fact didn't keep him from having an affair with Princess Zelda, who was of royal Hylain lineage. The short affair ended up resulting in Zelda's pregnancy with Link, whom she ended up having raised by Impa, her maid.
Rune perished after being mortally wounded by one of Ganon's demons, but not before passing on his sword to one who he thought could bring it to his son, who he had never met.
