White Sword
White Swords are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed]
Location and Uses
The Legend of Zelda
The White Sword is the second sword available to Link in The Legend of Zelda, following the Sword and preceding the Magical Sword. It can be obtained once Link has five Hearts in his Life. The White Sword does twice as much damage as the original Sword.[2] Link is given the White Sword by the White Sword-Giving Old Man in a cave in the northeast of Hyrule near a waterfall, which is guarded by a Lynel.
The White Sword also appears on the back of the 8-Bit Link amiibo.
The Minish Cap
The White Sword in The Minish Cap is the re-forged Picori Blade and replaces Link's first Sword, Smith's Sword. The White Sword grows in power as it is infused with the power of the Four Elements, with its name in the Items Screen changing to reflect the number of Elements that are currently infused. When infused with the Earth and Fire Elements, it is labeled as the White Sword (Two Elements), and after being infused with the Water Element, it is labeled as the White Sword (Three Elements). After the Wind Element, the fourth and final Element, is infused, the White Sword transforms into the Four Sword.
Each time Link infuses the White Sword with an Element, the hilt of the Sword changes color, and Link is able to make more copies of himself when he charges a Spin Attack over special tiles, with the maximum copies being three. The Four Sword allows him to make four copies of himself.
Other Appearances
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, White Swords appear as the second level Weapon of Link's Hylian Sword archetype.
White Swords have a base attack of 150 which increases by ten percent for each star in the Weapon's star rating.[3] This means that, depending on the White Sword's star rating, the Weapon can have an attack range of 150, 165, 180, 195, 210, and 225. White Swords have three slots for Skills (which can be increased by using a Weapon with a "Slots Up" Skill.) They are Light-type Weapons, meaning that the Weapon will increasingly deal more damage while repeatedly attacking a group of Enemies.[4]
White Swords are directly based off the White Sword from The Legend of Zelda, almost directly matching the artwork from that game.
An 8-bit version of the White Sword, called the 8-bit White Sword?, also appears as the Lv.★ form of Zelda's Rapier. It was added to the game with the Master Quest Pack DLC, and is unlocked by default in Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition.

Special Attack
Weak Point Smash
Like all Weapon categories in Hyrule Warriors, the Hylian Sword has two different Weak Point Smash attacks, the one used depending on whether the target is a Giant Boss or not. The attack used against Captains and Warriors consists of a series of wide slices in varying directions, followed by an ultra-powerful forward thrust. The Weak Point Smash used against Giant Bosses is a massive leap into the air, followed by a to-the-hilt downward thrust into the Boss's core.
Focus Spirit
The Hylian Sword's Focus Spirit Attack is a single forward thrust that has a relatively high attack range. Like with all Focus Spirit Attack, hitting a Captain, Warrior, or Giant Boss with this thrust will instantly expose that target's Weak Point Gauge for an extended period of time.
If Link's Focus Spirit Gauge is allowed to run dry on its own (without unleashing the Focus Spirit Attack), Link will thrust his Hylian Sword upward and release an explosion of light with him at the center.
Trivia
- In the Japanese versions of Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, the Noble Sword is called the White Sword.
- In Skyward Sword, one of the forms of the Goddess Sword is the Goddess White Sword. It is unlikely that there is any direct connection.
- Despite both Swords sharing the same name, the nature of the White Sword in The Minish Cap makes it impossible that it is the same White Sword in The Legend of Zelda.
