Exploitation of Other Editors Warning

Hello SuperBowser64. The staff team wanted to send you a message about your behavior in some of your edits over the past few months. Specifically, the edits that have intentions to not be productive but instead to spur other editors to improve the page for you.

The first instance we saw of this was on Croxodile's talk page where you stated, "I think I found a way to expand Zelda Wiki without doing the writing!" Originally, we thought you were making some sort of joke but eventually realized that you seem to believe this is a legitimate way to get other editors to expand pages for you. Additionally, on my talk page, you mentioned that "poorly written information is better than no information," which can be true in some contexts, but on an encyclopedia like ours, this is not a good stance to take. Take for example your edit to the Inventory page. The readers of the wiki wanting to find information about the Inventory would most often be turned away by a message reading, "Go ask an admin if you want the numbers," as that can send the message that the editors and admins do not care enough about the wiki to update the pages with accurate information when that is not true. We are all volunteers here, so pushing the work to the admins like we should have all the information really hurts us; it makes us feel like we're being treated as employees in a major company. This was pushed further by your most recent edit which was to the Tears of the Kingdom page. Here, you even stated that you knew the edit you made was "crap" and that it would hopefully cause some editor to get the page "fixed," which is not ok. Please refrain from making any further edits aimed to exploit other editors.

Furthermore, we would like you to refrain from spamming edits. This was brought up during your mass amount of edits to Category talk:The Ruins already, but we want to make sure it was brought up in this official warning. Please do not make a large number of edits to one page in a small amount of time, especially if the edits are very similar. Even though the page you edited was a talk page, the Zelda Wiki team still has to mark all of those edits as patrolled, or checked, which can be time-consuming for no reason. If you can condense your edits down to only a few edits in a small timeframe, that would be very helpful to the team! I suggest using the "Show preview" button underneath the edit box so you can view the page and your edits before you save them, so you don't need to make tons of different edits to see how the page looks.

In conclusion, the staff team will not tolerate any more exploitation of other editors in your future edits. If you wish to improve the content of a page, please offer to do some of the work yourself instead of pushing everything onto the other editors, whether this is through talk pages or through discussion on our Discord server. We greatly encourage you to read through the editing guidelines before making any more edits. If you don't have much information to add to a page, you don't need to worry about adding as much as you can. Adding just one, well-written sentence can benefit a page much more than 8 poorly-written sentences. If it ever occurs that you continue making more edits that attempt to exploit other editors into improving a page for you, you will be banned from editing for ignoring this warning and harassing others, according to the Rules. As I said before, everyone here is a volunteer, and it hurts the community we have here if the volunteers are treated more like workers. MagicMason1000, I sincerely apologize for being disrespectful, irresponsible, and an overall nuisance to everyone on the wiki. I guess I just wasn't taking anything seriously and ignorantly assumed that all I should be doing is blowing whistles and telling everyone else what needs doing. That was unkind and selfish of me. I made some pretty dumb edits, and looking back, I don't know what I was thinking. Admins don't have an obligation to do everything, or anything, on the wiki, and I shouldn't have assumed that they do. In the future, I'll be sure not to exploit editors or make irresponsible edits, and I'll condense my edits too. Thanks for straightening me out, SuperBowser64 (talk) 21:58, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you so much for the kind response! We all want to maintain an enjoyable and supportive community, so we hope you continue to make edits and work with other editors. we're all happy to help if you have any issues or questions! I did link it earlier, but if you would like to join our Discord server so you can talk with other editors more easily than this talk page, here is the invite! β€” 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐒𝐜𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 (𝐭𝐚π₯𝐀) 23:15, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
