The Goddess Sword is an item featured in Skyward Sword. First introduced in a leaked E3 2009 artwork, it is a sword that possesses intelligence and is inhabited by a spirit known as Fi. Eventually, the Goddess Sword becomes the Master Sword.[1]

History and Abilities

The Goddess Sword is located in the floating island known as Skyloft; however, Link eventually finds the sword and uses it to travel between two lands: Skyloft, which is an island floating above the clouds, and Hyrule, which is being ruled by evil forces.[2][1] According to Eiji Aonuma, when the Goddess Sword is helping Link, it will transform into a human figure and will lead the young hero back and forth from Skyloft to the land below.[3] Moreover, the sword has a "treasure-seeking ability" called Dowsing. It can sense important items and inform Link about them.[4]

If Link holds the sword up to the sky, it will be charged up by "energy from the heavens" and be able to release a Sword Beam once it's swung.[5] The sword will also focus "heavily on the reason why there are two lands divided by a bank of clouds."[6]
