(Twitter) Versions of an image

Hi, This is probably moreso curiosity than practicality for this specific image, but I notice for this and the magic sword render, twitter provides multiple versions, including

• https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CS9clKSVEAATzn_.jpg:large
• https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CS9clKSVEAATzn_.png:large
• etc.

This file here appears to be the first one, with the two others all being slightly larger at 600 x 391.

I wonder which is best? I compared the jpg and png, and both have some jpg artifacts, but I notice there are less of the extreme blotches or of bright red and the weird discoloration (e.g. extreme example) in the png, i.e. it's more consistent/smooth/"better"?. It's probably not worth changing this image unless with background removal, but any opinions?

PNG is always the preferred format for images, regardless if they need to be cropped/rendered or not. In this case, the sword renders will need to be in PNG format if they are to eventually be properly rendered. - Midoro ^{(T C)} 05:46, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
