Name Translation

でやんす (or デヤンス, for some reason, in this case), is a sort of "archaic way of saying です," according to my Japanese husband. As this is the case, having it in the name isn't really accurate. I don't know what everyone wants to move this to in light of this, but I thought I'd bring it up. Embyr 75  --Talk-- 03:21, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks, well, it's definitely part of the name, it's listed that way every time it's mentioned. None of the other enemies have anything like it, so it's pretty specific. I guess it's just a cute addition rather than just calling it a Catfish? The enemies have a sort of weird, dopey character, I guess it's meant to relate to that? It's kind of untranslatable so I guess it's best to leave it as there is no known English name for hardly any of the enemies in this game. The names in this game make me think of enemies from the Mother series, namely weird and "punny". Not sure if this one is a pun or just weird. If your husband can help with any of the others that would be great! I've still got a bunch more Tingle enemy names to add to the wiki and a good chunk of them are pretty confusing to a non-Japanese speaker like me. User:Fizzle8094/sig 14:02, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, it looks like you're right. I even had him look it up on Japanese websites, and it's definitely the name. But he's still confident on its meaning, so I guess its name is equivalent to "I am Catfish" or "It is Catfish"? I think it's probably just weird. =) Considering the game it's from... I'm definitely going with weird. =) Embyr 75  --Talk-- 21:00, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh hold up! You found the name on some Japanese sites? Can you perhaps link me to them? I actually own the guide the names are from, but that would be very handy. I've failed to find anything online in my searching that uses these names. And yeah, most of the names are weird names, some seem untranslatable. Can I direct you to Kamonano Duck and the Shiyou Rat if you have the time to check them? Those two are confusing me in their meaning. I sense puns, the bane of all translating. Sorry, I think I've misled you. He found the names on random sites, like 日本人 kids asking for gaming help on Yahoo! Japan and stuff. No official listing. =( Sorry. As for the other two names, I'll try to get him to take a look... he's not a gamer and thinks this hobby is a massive waste of my time, I'm sure. He's more mature than I am lol. Oh dear, haha! Non-gamers are kinda rare these days come to think of it... Anyway, that's fine. This isn't just about gaming anyway! I wish to learn more Japanese, genuinely interested. User:Fizzle8094/sig 23:53, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
