Regarding the Replacement of Several Images

This doesn't relate so much to this page itself, but rather to several images that were featured on this page, and since this is spread across several images I'm not sure where else on the Wiki to bring this up but here unless I were to bring it up on the talk pages of each individual image.

On September 15, 2022, I replaced several screenshots from TotK's E3 2021 trailer with higher quality versions taken from Nintendo's press kit. Nearly two weeks later, most of these images were deleted and in their place were reuploads with versions taken from the Winter 2021 edition of Nintendo Magazine. The problem is these were the exact same images from the press kit, but smaller in size and lower in quality (1 2 3 4 5 6). On top of this, the images in question were indefinitely protected to admin level, preventing them from being overwritten. No reasons were given for why these were replaced with lower quality versions or why they were protected.

I know this happened over three months ago, but I only just learned of this today. I was wondering why this happened and what the reasons were. It seems counterintuitive and unusual of this wiki to take images and replace them with worse versions without any given reason. Marlotix (talk) 02:21, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'll need to ask around but promotional images are supposed to be tagged as such and protected, ironically so that a situation like this doesn't happen. TriforceTony (talk) 05:07, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I still have the versions from the press kit on me so I can always reupload them if or when I'm given the okay to. Thanks for looking into it. Marlotix (talk) 05:35, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for pointing the issue out. I'm still waiting to hear back but I think you should be fine to reupload them if they're from the press kit, though maybe under a different name. For now, would you append Promotional to the end of the press kit file names? We may want to make that a standard to avoid confusion with normal screenshots. Hey there, sorry about that. There was a bit of confusion between staff a while back that apparently, we never realized even happened! I had uploaded those images from the Nintendo Magazine to cover its respective page and other corresponding pages, but I never deleted any of those press kit images you had uploaded. That would be Croxodile. A while back, they were cleaning up TotK images and found your press kit images. At the time they didn't exactly know what the press kit was (and didn't have access to it, obviously): "My bad, couldn't verify the press kit source for myself while I was cleaning up the TotK images, so I just went with the one that I could confirm," so they went with the Nintendo Magazine ones since they did have access to that instead. I will be keeping the Nintendo Magazine images up specifically to cover the Nintendo Magazine pages, but if you want to reupload those press kit releases for the TotK side of things, that would be amazing! Sorry about the confusion, I'll be sure to lock the press kit images under promotional like I did for the others so they don't get deleted again. β€” 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐒𝐜𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 (𝐭𝐚π₯𝐀) 15:46, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's all good. Thanks for the response! I'll reupload the press kit images and also add Promotional to their files names, as requested. Marlotix (talk) 19:37, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've reuploaded the 6 images. I also uploaded the other images from the Press Kit that weren't already on the wiki. There are 11 in total. One of them was still up so I renamed the file to match the others, and another I had reuploaded yesterday before asking about this, but converted it to a png as the image of the glowing arm from that scene was already uploaded as a png. I just reuploaded it as a jpg since that was its original file type, as well as to match with the other press kit images which are all also jpgs.
