You know what you're doing, but I don't. Why is a joke racial citation and why are my cites invalid?Argentum kurodil (talk) 12:57, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The joke

As should be done, I shall ask on the talk page. I was a bit sceptical however, as you sometimes fail to respond to/counter my points, such as on Talk:Granté. (I'm not trying to blame you for ignorance, mind.) Anyhow, I had considered what you said for a bit of time already, and was thinking you might be right. But I had a few thoughts, such as:
As it is a joke, we can't confirm that a "magical Sheikah nose implant" is a real thing;
If magical Sheikah noses are a thing, are all Sheikah born with it? And if, like the mind's eye, it begins dormant and needs training, then maybe an implant acts like the Lens of Truth - a shortcut. And where in current, calamity-filled Hyrule would one find a surgeon seasoned in the way of magical Sheikah noses? Spoone?;
Jerrin mentions Link having a dormant sense of humour when he failed to respond to the joke. This makes it clear that she was going for a reaction, so something believable wouldn't cut it - only something ridiculous;
It is a joke. Anybody can crack a joke, as it is unreal (except those to whom the context of the joke would actually apply, of course, which excludes Jerrin in this scenario) Argentum kurodil (talk) 16:19, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The question of whether the implants really exist or not is missing the point (as is focusing on Jerrin's comment about Link's sense of humor). The context of the joke is that Jerrin would need or get one in the first place, which she wouldn't if she were a Sheikah. Yes, "anybody" could technically make the joke but it wouldn't make sense for a Sheikah to joke about an implant of something they already have. Fair enough. However, I think that the point about his sense of humour is important. Jerrin cracked the joke, but then had to clarify that it was just that; this is due to him not realising its comical nature and thus not having a reaction such as laughter (which can be attributed to his "dormant" sense of humour), and Jerrin probably wouldn't want to accidentally preach falsehoods to him, as his somewhat vulnerable mental state makes his rather naïve.
Also, regarding that second citation:
Page 101: "They are also characterized by their white hair."
Page 133: "The Gerudo have brilliant red hair and brown skin."
If Rola and Jerrin, who go against the book, are Hylian, then surely Ashai, Teake, Calyban and Katta, who go against the book in the same way, are also Hylian. This is obviously not true, as Gerudo can be distinguished due to having their distinct model, of which there are 5 main types. The Sheikah and Hylians all unique models, and thus this can't be applied in the same way. That is why the Sheikah only wear that clothing: so you know who is and isn't Sheikah.

Thank you.Argentum kurodil (talk) 17:15, 9 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
