Name Origin

Could Zelo Pond be named for Ezlo? Zelo is an anagram of Ezlo, the Japanese equivalent (Zerō) is similar to the latter half of Ezlo's Japanese name (Ezero), and it is in close proximity to the Trilby areas, Crenel areas and Pico Pond, all of which are related to content from The Minish Cap. Hey, so I've removed the mentions of Ezlo for now. I've worked with a lot of the JP names at this point (including for this page) and I specifically chose to not include any mention of Ezlo because, though the connection seemed obvious, the way they corrupt names doesn't really quite work in the way that we could retroactively find Ezero from Zerō. It's a lot more nuanced than that, unfortunately.
When they corrupt names, its usually by jumbling the moras around, cutting them off, or a combination of both. I can't remember a single case where they added elements to a name, which is what they've done with the Chōonpu here. Going from my experience, it seems incredibly unlikely that ゼロー is derived from エゼロ in spite of the factors which prompted you to add mentions of Ezlo to this page. Instead, it may likely be anything like Zerō, Rōze, Zēro, or it could involve the mora chi (like Zerōchi, Rōzechi, Zērochi, etc.) because this game likes to be clever and make fish-based puns with bodies of water. I don't know of any words based on the ~256 possible combinations that can be made from these elements, so I chose to leave it blank.
Also as you can see from the additions I've made, many of the names (German, Italian, LA Spanish) are actually contradictory with Ezlo's name in that region. Based on what we can see, they usually keep tight records of name origins for areas and aren't likely to deviate much from the source material, yet they have. Perhaps a more true name origin can be found by examining these instead. TriforceTony (talk) 23:10, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
