My absence

So you guys may have noticed that I haven't been in for a while. That's because for the past few days I've been in bed with (what is assumed to be) pneumonia. Woo-hoo!
I'll still be jumping in every now and then to check for vandals and such, but the actual patrolling-of-edits is going to be quite backlogged for a while (unless Adam feels like playing a little catch-up for me? :D). Stay radical. —Ando (talk) 14:39, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I've noticed that. Because I don't own all the Zelda games, therefore meaning that I'm not one to add knowledge to pages, until I actually finish some games and start buying some classics, I usually look at he recent changes too. I've been noticing and saying "Where's Matt and Ando?". You both have been gone. Anyway, I hope you get better soon. Seablue 14:44, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hows the pneumonia? Fifth day and counting that you've been backlogged. Seablue 13:00, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm just about completely back on my feet, actually, thanks. I've been dropping in more and more and patrolling a few edits when the time permits. I've been out of bed for longer than two minutes, so that's good. :P I should be back in full action within the next day or so. —Ando (talk) 18:05, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Awesome. As for me, I've found out i'll be leaving on the morning of the 18th for a good 3-4 days in Pennsylvania. I'll be back on the 21st then. That saddens me though. Knowing I come back on the 21st means i'll only have a week and a half 'till school starts. In case anybody doesn't know, i despise school. Why do they have to take away 7 hours (In my case) that could be spent with family? Thankfully it's a Wednesday, meaning that I only have 3 days until the first weekend. Seablue 18:33, 5 August 2008

Thanks

I have finally decided to be serious with my Zeldawiki account. I am trying my best to help as much as I can. I was just wondering a few things. Can I upload pictures I have saved to my computer? I tried yesterday with a picture I drew of Majora's Wrath but it didn't work. What is jpg? Apparently the picture was lacking jpg. Thanks. CoreyPotter 16:41, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, you can upload pictures from a computer. I'm assuming that you already know the basic process, as it sounds like you've already tried (clicking "upload file" then browsing for the image). Regarding "jpg", it's a type of file. Other image files are "gif", "png", and "bmp". The Wiki software only accepts certain types of images (.png, .gif, .jpg, and .jpeg). To see what type of image you have, right-click the image and select "properties". It will have a field saying "Type of file: [something] image". If the [something] isn't one of the above types, then the image can't be uploaded, and you'll need to save it as a different type.
To do this, simply open the image in an image editor such as Paint. Select "Save as..." and change the file type to an accepted type using the drop-down menu. You can then upload the file.
I hope that I made sense here. ;) —Ando (talk) 16:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Some words of Wisdom. First of all, .jpg and .jpeg are the same. They both stand for JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group). A JPEG is really only good for complex images that use up to 256 colors. .gif stands for GIF (Graphics Interchange Format). If you have a moving image, you can only use GIF. GIF can move and store up to 256 colors, making them better than JPEG. Lastly, we have PNG (Portable Network Graphics). This can store transparent images. It also holds thousands of colors, making it better than GIF or JPEG. A format i'd like to see this wiki add is MNG. MNG (Multiple-image Network Grahics) is like PNG but supports animation. Too bad IE and Safari are too lame to support MNG. Another reason to use Firefox :D

File formats from worst to best GIF -> JPEG -> PNG. Seablue 17:32, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I might add that animated png's are only supported in Firefox 3.Emma (Talk) 22:16, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

PNG, saved properly, is always smaller than GIF. Save a PNG image in 256 colors and it will be equal quality but a smaller size than a GIF image. The only advantage GIF has is animation. The format APNG is better than MNG. APNG displays a still image (the first frame) on browsers, programs, and image previewers that don't support it, whereas MNG just won't show up at all. APNG uses the *.png suffix on files so we'd be able to upload them without having to change the accepted upload formats. A correction to my old statement: APNG is supported in Firfox 3, but MNG is not supported at all.Emma (Talk) 00:28, August 12, 2008 (UTC)

I am very proud! With your help I was able to get my picture on the Wiki, and I figured out how to put it on my page! I'm so happy! Mjora's Wrath looks so mean and purple! Unfortunatley I ruined the picture( the real one ) by trying to draw Majora's Incarnation in the back. Now it looks like fecal matter. Oh well... But thanks so much you guys!CoreyPotter 01:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)CoreyPotterReply[reply]

Awesome, good job! And also extra points for keeping it on your user page and not trying to add it to the article (since fan art doesn't go on articles). Nice picture, by the way. ;) —Ando (talk) 04:30, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, it's an awesome pic! Just remember to write your text, press enter, type the templates in, press enter, type in the next one, ad so on, so it looks nicer. Good first try though, it was a very small mistake. Seablue 13:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My brother forced(Yes, FORCED!) me to post a picture that is blasphamous, how do I delete it? I'm still a total n00b about everything here.CoreyPotter 00:09, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

??????? Wh-what is that picture?? That's bizarre. But yeah, only administrators (also split into the sub-groups of "Bureaucrats" and "Sysops") can delete things. If you'd like something deleted, type {{Delete}} in that page, and it'll show up in the "Articles for deletion" category. That will let me or the other admins know that it should be deleted. —Ando (talk) 01:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks I noticed that it was deleted. My brother was pissed! Haha. But I can't upload my poster. It will be 3 by 1.5 FEET and my scanner isn't that big.CoreyPotter 17:17, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dang it. Oh well. At least tell me how awesome it is when you're done. :P —Ando (talk) 17:35, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why don't you just scan certain sections of it. Like the top, then the bottom, then we put it together. Seablue 18:01, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was thinking of scanning certain parts, I might do that with my EPIC Wind Wakre poster( I make them for all the games I've played beaten or like. ) But I have been working on a very neat way to right that makes letters 3D and holographic like and it really empahasizes MMs' game effects. Link is hard to draw. I don't know why. I can make a FLAWLESS( almost at least )TP Link but MM and Oot Links I can't get right. Oh well.... Also does any on have any good moon pictures?CoreyPotter 23:21, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am going to upload my Wind Waker picture to the Wiki. But I just wanted to know if size would be a problem?Corey Lord of Tacos! 01:00, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Featured Content

Just a reminder. Template:FA/35 is open for the next featured article. We still have to update the script. Don't forget to update the Featured Article schedule. By the way, are we going to have the even-numbered templates like Template:FP/34|this or like Template:FA/34|this? I think that including the odd-numbered ones just like a template is better than redirecting. But that is just me.Emma (Talk) 22:16, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

Right. After these past few instances, I've learned to go through the templates to see what's happening first before I decide on one to place the new content. D: Anyway, I believe that the reason I made them redirect was mainly for ease-of-editing - if I see a problem with the current featured content, I go to edit the main page and see which FA / FP template it's calling. Since it redirects, regardless of which of the two templates it is, I always get taken to the one I need to edit. It's just an ease-of-editing thing. It's the quickest way I can think of to getting to the thing I need to edit. —Ando (talk) 22:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I guess that is true. The featured article ones seem to need more editing than the featured images do though. But I think we should changed the featured image templates to be like the last one, Template:FP/33|FP/33. The option frameless works exactly like thumb does only without a frame. It looks a lot better that way.Emma (Talk) 22:32, August 11, 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sounds good. We couldn't use "frameless" on images with captions, though; the frame is the only thing displaying them. With "frameless", the caption becomes alt text. —Ando (talk) 03:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

But the captions aren't necessary since the whole template is supposed to be describing the image. It is redundant to have captions.Emma (Talk) 03:32, August 12, 2008 (UTC)
Oh! Right, we're talking about featured pictures, not featured articles. Whoops. :P —Ando (talk) 05:05, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Did you remember to set the Main Page to stay to be at the new featured content?Emma (Talk) 01:14, October 7, 2008 (UTC)

Er, I thought that Adam did that since he was on pretty much right after the new template was made. I'll get on that. —Ando (talk) 02:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Seriousness, and Images

Hey, I'm right beside CoreyPotter and am taking my ZeldaWiki account seriously now. And one way i have noticed in being helpful with the site is by adding images to pages that need them. So if it is not a bother, is it possible to direct me to some pages that are in desperate need of an Image? OH and 99% of the images i upload are not from any site and are one of a kind Screen Captures taken by me and my computer. Thanks a lot and I'm looking forward to helping with the site :) Onyx 01:14, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Check here. It isn't a complete list, but it has a lot.Emma (Talk) 01:19, August 12, 2008 (UTC)
And if you're feeling a little ambitious, hitting "Random Page" and seeing what shows up could have its success as well. —Ando (talk) 03:23, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Permission to create a new page?

Hey Ando, do you think i can create a new (theory) page pertaining to the man who used to live in the house where the well is. Since i have seen a few straight up theory pages, and considering that this one has lots of evidence. Do you think it is possible to make such a page? I'm just wondering cause this theory is really good. It's on the Bongo Bongo. Thanks! Onyx 19:20, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Erm, a theory page? Don't we have one of those? If we don't however, maybe it should be put under a new section in the page Bongo-Bongo. That's where most theories are places (I believe). Either there or your user page... Seablue 19:22, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I mean like the Great Flood that's a whole page based on a theory but the Bongo-Bongo speculation is already on it's page so it doesn't matter either way i guess. K just wondering! Onyx 19:31, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, the Great Flood was an event that occurred in Zelda history. Major events have articles (like the Imprisoning War, etc.). This doesn't strike me as something that would need a whole article. A section on the Bongo-Bongo page, sure, yeah. I'm not even sure what a page about that would be called. :/ "The Man Who Lived in the Kakariko House Who Might be Bongo-Bongo"?? :P
Thanks for asking before making a potentially... controversial? article, though. Much appreciated. ;) —Ando (talk) 03:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I finally check my email, so what was the image you needed me to render? Steve 22:54, 21 August 2008 (EST)

"Castle Town" Request Completed

Hey! On the Castle Page it requested that someone put up pictures of the entrances of the Dungeons. I completed the request, and i noticed that you can change that page. So maybe if you could, since the request was completed, remove the request from the page? -Onyx 18:51, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey there, and thanks for your uploads! Unfortunately, as you can see on this page, the request actually ISN'T complete; we still require images for Dodongo's Cavern, the Ice Temple, the Spirit Temple, and Ganon's Castle. Perhaps I should start going through Ocarina of Time again and take some screenshots. :P —Ando (talk) 05:34, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
oops! sorry Ando. I only saw the partial list :P NO worries, I'll get started on the rest of the dungeons right away! -Onyx 20:02, 23 August 2008 (UTC) EDIT: Alright! I completed the list just as you asked! Check it out! :D I took the screeshots all by myself :D haha -Onyx 20:58, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, wow! Dude, you're a beast! XD Excellent work, good job. Guess that request is complete. —Ando (talk) 02:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Check out this page! I know it wasn't requested but i wanted it to be similar, so i added screenshots of the opening dungeon cutscenes of Majora's Mask when you first enter it. Is it ok? -Onyx 19:43, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, that looks great, actually. Hm, I wonder if we should start doing this for every dungeon? But how to handle the 2D games'? Maybe just a screenshot of the first screen of that particular dungeon? —Ando (talk) 22:04, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Isn't there a unique arrangement of statues with eyes that follow you in the first room of every dungeon of the Oracle games? That'll do for those two games.Emma (Talk) 22:51, August 24, 2008 (UTC)
Got it! this is the page. I'll probably start working on oracle of seasons tomorrow. Is it good? -Onyx 18:26, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Indeed it is, sir! Wow, you're pretty quick with this stuff. :O Much better than the maps we had before, in my opinion. —Ando (talk) 18:45, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Phew! Alright, this page is done: OOS Dungeons. Sorry it took me a few days. I had school stuff to do haha. I barely got to it an hour ago. :P -Onyx 23:56, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You say "Sorry it took me a few days" as if I'm gonna get mad at you; but you actually did it, so that's totally awesome. :P Say, you wouldn't happen to have a video capture card, would you? Seems to me the only way to get (good) images of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess; Phantom Hourglass I'm not even sure. :/ —Ando (talk) 02:24, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll spill my secret haha. Actually Windows Vista has a built in Screen Capturer. and i go to youtube.com and take the images there. Thats how i've gotten 99% of the images i've uploaded. -Onyx 02:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Edit Count

What you said made me think... The EditCount extension can provide that same information. It gives you the edit count per namespace. Best of all, it is not the same edit count extension that Wikia has! :PEmma (Talk) 21:17, August 25, 2008 (UTC)

It also provides a parser function that you can use to update your edit count on your page automatically.Emma (Talk) 21:21, August 25, 2008 (UTC)

I was hoping there would be something like this. Would you be able to post it on your user page? (I know you can with other parser functions). I was hoping there was one for time too, if I'm in a rush sometimes like right now, it would be easier to paste a template than to change the time. Steve

What's Up?

You haven't been around much lately. You just jump in and make a few quick edits and then leave. Is there something going on? I think that there is quite a backlog of unpatrolled edits. I seem to be dominating the Patrol Log right now. And I'm not even trying to. I'm just curious. But I guess I have to be careful. Someone told me that curiosity can kill the Matt. :P Emma (Talk) 22:03, August 29, 2008 (UTC)

Eh, the chemo nausea's gotten a bit worse (I... did mention that I've started chemo for these tumors, right?), so I've been a bit more bed-ridden. When I can, I come in, check edits real quick (mainly those made by newer accounts to verify non-vandalismness), see if there are any pressing issues (vandalism, some discussion, etc.), and move on. I haven't been patrolling many edits made by our "trusted members" unless I've got reason to suspect something. But yeah, thanks for checking in, man. —Ando (talk) 23:33, 29 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh crap you started chemo? That sucks. Aren't you going to get side effects like hair loss and stuff. Oh, this has got to suck. I feel so sorry for you. Also: 13:11, July 11, 2008 Adam (Talk | contribs) changed group membership for User:Matt from (none) to autopatrol ‎ (You make too many edits and too few mistakes ;)). What happened to me? I'd like auto-patrol and i'll do it plz. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seablue254 00:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, I think the exact words are "I haven't been patrolling many edits made by our "trusted members" unless I've got reason to suspect something." Trusted member. It's not like either you or Adam check all his edits anyway. Doing that will clear up the unpatrolled edits list a little bit. Perhaps Markol too.Emma (Talk) 00:11, August 30, 2008 (UTC)
I still dont understand why I can't get autopatrol rights. Seablue 00:17, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, that is what I said. You might as well have them.Emma (Talk) 00:23, August 30, 2008 (UTC)

Oh. Misread that! Sorry! Seablue 00:27, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeh, chemo. No hair loss, though; it's a "low-grade" chemo, whatever that's supposed to mean. :P
Autopatrol... The point of it (as we use it, anyway) is to catch large amount of similar edits that a user is more or less ALWAYS doing (such as, in your case, Matt, redirect-fixes and template edits, which are basically impossible to screw up and leave that way). However, regardless of autopatrol, I still check all non-purely link-fix mainspace edits, since they sometimes need to be reverted for whatever reason (yes, even the autopatrolled Matt). So really, I see no reason to autopatrol Sea and Steven since they rarely make these types of edits. Every now and then, sure, but not as often. Hence, I don't see a reason to autopatrol them. —Ando (talk) 02:05, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I make tons of Image Edits every now and then. Wouldn't that be a reason? Seablue 13:22, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"I see no reason to autopatrol Sea and Steven since they rarely make these types of edits. Every now and then, sure, but not as often."
Why do you want this so badly? :/ —Ando (talk) 16:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It makes me seem important :( Seablue 16:50, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tech Issues

I had a little chat with Jason and we figured out why the search bar would not move. But we found out that we need to update a lot of the php and css files. Jason is going to do that soon. That is why there is that weird bar above. Could you put a notice on the main page? Have it say something like: The site is experiencing some technical issues and that they will be resolved shortly.Emma (Talk) 22:39, August 30, 2008 (UTC)

Awesome. I'll do that. —Ando (talk) 05:47, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just wanted you to know, I can't really find the time to edit this place anymore. Ever since school started, I've had no more time and can't do it. It also sort of bored me that all I really do is edit pictures and articles. I guess you can take this as a goodbye. In either case, I had fun, but I don't think I'll be coming back. Please don't go crazy over this ;). Bye! Seablue 14:35, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, wow. I figured you wouldn't be showing up as much, but leaving I didn't expect. :/ Well, I guess, uh... maybe see you around, then. —Ando (talk) 17:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Then I guess I'll have to hang tight, with Seablue and Matt gone, things will be much more difficult now. Douken seems very promising, though, he's already made many corrections. Steve 17:48, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Haha, I know, right? School's back! Matt @ Sea: "aw man can't come anymore guys :(" | Douken: "i guess i run on an inverted school year and therefore have more free time during school???"
It's confusing but oh well. Can't do anything about it, I guess. —Ando (talk) 17:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
