I think partly it's because when someone types Phantom Hourglass in the search bar, most of the time the person is looking for the game, instead of the item, maybe.

, for example{{it|Phantom Hourglass}}
or{{it|Ocarina of Time}}

- Indeed, as I notice was promptly changed in the edit here. However, I personally prefer using the pipe trick I mentioned, because it is very intuitive, and can be used for anything with parentheses, e.g.
[[Lion (Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love)|]]
