Maple (メイプル, Meipuru) (from the Oracle duo) is an apprentice witch of her grandmother, Syrup. Her name makes up the first part of an in-game joke (Maple Syrup). She likes to sneak out and fly her broomstick when she has time, although her skills on it are somewhat questionable, as she often flies down and crashes into Link, causing many of their items to scatter. However, it is Link whom walks in front of Maple.

Whenever Link 'bumps' into Maple, a large amount of both of their items are sent scattering around the area. Maple will waste little time, before she begins trying to grab everything, even Link's items. Depending on how many rupees she is able to collect over time, Maple will eventually trade in her broom for a vacuum cleaner. In a linked game, she is capable of riding a flying saucer.

A witch bearing a strong resemblance to Maple serves as the potion shop's keeper in the GBA remake of A Link to the Past, replacing another, unnamed assistant

In the Manga

Maple plays a fairly large role in the Oracle of Seasons manga, alongside Ricky and Link, journeying with them after meeting in the Temple of Seasons. Maple constantly says she only tags along because she wants the Rod of Seasons, but after obtaining it from Link through a stroke of good luck on her part and leaving them, Maple eventually returns to Link's aid just in time to help him defeat Gorgon(in the manga)/Onox. She is depicted in the manga as a kind witch, despite her selfishness who does not have constant effective control over most of her spells. She is essential in the defeat of Dark Dragon.

Trivia

  • Maple appears after Link has killed thirty monsters, or fifteen while wearing the Maple’s Ring.
  • Despite her minor roles in the game, Maple is quite a popular character compared to the others who share a role her size.
  • Link will not drop any major items when bumping into Maple, such as the sword, Pieces of Heart or the Seed Satchel.
  • Her name combined with her teacher's makes Maple Syrup, a mixture made from tree sap similar to Syrup's ingredients.
