When Link first arrives on Dragon Roost Island, he soon discovers that the Ritos are having a dilemma. Valoo, the Sky Spirit who gives the wings to a young Rito after they climb Dragon Roost Cavern, has been going on a rampage and the young Ritos are unable to reach him. The Ritos are unsure of what has happened, and the past attendance of Valoo, who was Prince Komali's grandmother and was supposedly an excellent attender, had passed away. Medli, the current attendance, plans to make a trip to Valoo to find out the cause. The cause of the problem is later discovered to be the work of Gohma, who was hassling Valoo by pulling its tail. Prior to Link helping the Ritos with their problem, Link learns that the Rito Chieftain's son, Prince Komali, refuses to get his wings and has a lack of courage. Not only is Valoo the cause of this but because his grandmother had passed away. Prince Komali had chosen to isolate himself in his own room, doing nothing but sitting on his bed and rubbing a small, orange orb. This orb was Din's Pearl which was given to him by his grandmother, thus he refuses to give it to anyone.

After Link had defeated the Gohma and relieved Valoo of its pain, the young Ritos are finally able to their wings again. Prince Komali, impressed by Link's courage, changes his mind and decides to plan his trip to get his wings from Valoo. He gives Link the Goddess Pearl that he had. Prince Komali can be then seen again shortly after Medli is 'awakened' by Link and realizes that she is the Sage of Earth. Prince Komali then flies, with his new wings, down to the cliff where Medli was earlier, only to see that she seemed to have disappeared, as she had went with Link back to the King of Red Lions. Prince Komali can then also be seen near the entrance to the main cavern where the Ritos gather, gazing out into the sea and holding a flower that he had picked for Medli. Prince Komali also had a change of clothes since getting his wings.

Prince Komali seems to be in love with Medli, and he gets worried when Medli had left. He planned on giving her a flower as a sign of his affections, but it eventually wilts before he can give it to her.

At the end of the game when both Link and Tetra had surfaced from the flooding Hyrule, Prince Komali flies towards them just before Tetra's ship sails in, where Medli can be seen on, implying that she could be returning to her home island.
