Template:Character Cawlin is a student at the Knight Academy in Skyward Sword. He's a friend and henchman to Link's personal rival, Groose. He, Groose, and Strich have a reputation for being bullies. He rides a brown Loftwing.
Biography
Calwin is first seen discussing with Groose and Strich how they got Link's Crimson Loftwing inside their trap. Link overhears and a small fight erupts, until Zelda comes in making Groose become infatuated with her. Calwin is also one of the four participants in the Wing Ceremony.
Cawlin has a crush on Karane and asks Link to deliver a love letter he wrote to her.[1][2] However, Link has a choice between delivering the letter to Karane or a strange hand that appears in the Academy's restroom at night. Doing either will result in Link receiving five Gratitude Crystals.
If Link chooses to deliver the letter to the strange hand (which is actually the ghost of a young girl),[3] much to Cawlin's chagrin,[4] it will read the letter and end up falling in love with Cawlin.[5] The hand will thereafter affectionately stroke his hair while he sleeps, and he'll be plagued with nightmares.[6] If Link delivers the letter to Karane, however, she rejects him,[7] and in an ironic turn of events will end up entering into a relationship with Pipit, who only realized he loved her after hearing she received a love letter from someone else.[8][9] This causes Cawlin to run away crying, and can be afterward be found in despair in Groose's room.[10]
Trivia
- An inscription in the lower right hand corner of the chalkboard in the Knight Academy classroom reads "Karane + Caw...," and was undoubtedly written by Cawlin himself, or a friend who was aware of his feelings.
- Cawlin's letter reads, "Greetings. My love for you is wider than the horizon and deeper than the clouds. I would very much like it if you would go out with me. Your brave knight, Cawlin."[11]
