The Family of the Hero[1] is a long-running bloodline of the Legendary Hero. The hero's descendants, the Knights of Hyrule, referred in several Zelda games are the protectors of the Royal Family of Hyrule. Descended from the Legendary Hero who governed the Crest of Courage,[2] the Knights of Hyrule consists of numerous high-skilled swordsmen, captains and many soon-to-be chosen heroes who are named Link.[3] Most of the times, they are led by the Royal Family's monarchs. Serving the Royal Family, they fight for them and their Kingdom of Hyrule for several hundreds of years.

Throughout their long history, the Family of the Hero inherited power, wisdom and courage, including every strong abilities from their ancestors, the Goddess Hylia's chosen knights, such as the Spin Attack, that were passed down within the clan of the Hylian Knights for thousands of years. They guard and protect most of the sacred objects which the Royal Family protects for many years[4] and are willing to give up their lives on accomplishing their quests. Their red crest is another new variation of the Goddess Crest used to represent their ancestor during the age in which he saved the very same land, formerly known only as the Surface located below the floating island of Skyloft. The crest depicts a Crimson Loftwing that helped Link, the hero of Skyward Sword. However, the red crest of the knights already existed before.[5]

Downfall Timeline

The King, the seven Maidens and four Soldiers in A Link to the Past

The Downfall Timeline is the timeline in which Link, the Hero of Time, despite his best efforts, was defeated by Ganondorf in the final battle. Having defeated the Hero of Time, Ganondorf now possessed the full Triforce. He was subsequently sealed within the Dark World by Zelda and the other awakened sages, taking the Triforce with him. During a short period of peace, various people began to enter the corrupted Sacred Realm, not to return. Evil began to flow fourth from the seal, and so the King of Hyrule ordered Seven Sages to close the entrance to the realm once more. This event came to be known as the Imprisoning War.

This turn of events created the timeline containing A Link to the Past, the Oracle series, Link's Awakening, The Legend of Zelda, and The Adventure of Link.

Child Timeline

After having been sent back to his childhood by the adult Princess Zelda of Ocarina of Time, the Hero of Time began a new history in which Ganondorf never destroyed Hyrule Castle and failed to take over the kingdom for seven years. He warned the current King of Hyrule and the child Zelda of the tragic future that awaited the kingdom if nothing was to be done. He gains the Royal Family's trust and subsequently spends an undisclosed period of time with Zelda, after which she then gives him the Ocarina of Time as a farewell gift on his journey to look for his friend Navi. With knowledge of Ganondorf's actions, he was to be executed by the six sages atop Arbiter's Grounds, a prison for Hyrule's most notorious criminals. Through unknown means, the Triforce of Power appeared on his hand, allowing him to avoid the execution and kill one of the sages. He was then banished to the Twilight Realm as a last resort.

This timeline contains the events of Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Four Swords Adventures.
