Dacto
The Dacto is a monstrous bird that first appeared in Template:ALTTP.
Appearances
A Link to the Past
It originally appeared somewhat like a pterosaur, similar to Guays in certain games. It has a distinctive horn and no feathers, although it does have bird-like feet. They are only found in the Dark World, where, much like the Crows of the Light World, they can be found sitting in trees, waiting for Link to pass by. They are also commonly found on rocky outcrops, more so than Crows are, and even in the Swamp of Evil, where the constant rain does not seem to phase them at all. When they spot Link, they will swoop down at him much like a Crow, but they are far more dangerous, hounding him constantly until they are defeated, and causing a lot more damage, able to take off at least two hearts per hit. While they are defensively stronger too, by now Link has the Master Sword, so they can usually be defeated as easily.
Link's Awakening
Known as Ravens[1] in this game, they appear to have feathers and are seen in mountainous regions such as Tal Tal Mountain Range and near the entrance of Turtle Rock. Aside from their appearance, they are otherwise identical to Crows, and will swoop at Link to attack.
A Link Between Worlds
Dactos reprise their role from Template:ALTTP in this game, where they are extremely similar in appearance in behavior. This time, they appear solely in Lorule, again taking on the same role as the Crows in Hyrule. It is suggested that many of the birds in Lorule had turned into monsters like Dactos.
Trivia
- In the Game Boy Advance remake, the behavior patterns of the Crow and Dacto were reversed for unknown reasons. Therefore a Dacto is less dangerous than in the original game as it will only swoop at Link one or two times, while a Crow will chase Link until defeated. Its other aspects remain the same, however.
- Dacto has some visual similarities to a Kodongo.
- Lorule's Weather Vanes resemble a purple and dark pink Dacto.
