Template:Animal Chef Bear[1] is one of the residents of Animal Village on Koholint Island in Link's Awakening. She resides in a house in the southeastern corner of the village. She has a tendency to greet people by saying "hi ho!"

Biography

Chef Bear can be found cooking and talking about opening a branch in Mabe Village.[2] She is very amiable to Link and offers him advice on how he can get past the Walrus.[3] Chef Bear is one of the few residents of Animal Village that does not leave her home when Marin visits, presumably because she is cooking. She is very fond of Marin, and like other residents she refers to her as "Little Marin".[4] A smaller bear appears outside listening to Marin's singing, who may or may not be related to Chef Bear.

Chef Bear is also one of the participants of the trading sequence. She has run out of ingredients[5] and asks Link to give her the Honeycomb he obtained from Tarin;[6] in exchange, she gives Link a Pineapple. She believes Honeycombs to be a rare delicacy.[7]

Trivia

  • Chef Bear is described as a "she" in the Player's Guide, although her appearance, mannerisms and fondness for Marin make this questionable, and it may be a mistake. Other female animals such as Miss Goat and Schule Donavitch's model are given bows in their hair or other feminine traits to make their gender more apparent.
  • Chef Bear is simply known as Kuma, meaning "Bear" in the Japanese version of the game.
