Location and Uses

Cadence of Hyrule

Flails are Weapons that can be wielded by Cadence, Link, and Zelda.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

The Flail is a new weapon archetype introduced to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity as part of the first wave of DLC, Pulse of the Ancients.

While there are three variants of Flails, unlike other weapons within the game, the Flail variants are not separated by a tiered strength system, nor are they introduced into the weapon drop system. What makes each Flail model unique (aside from the shape of their heads) is having a different action during Link's Strong I (X) button input. Each Flail starts with 35 power, but completing three Quests in the EX Royal Ancient Labs can increase the base power of all Flails by 10 each.

Link's Special Trait with the Flail is to grab a weapon that can be considered a two handed weapon, a one handed weapon, or a spear with the Flails, and make a copy of it to use as a temporary extension of the Flails when The copied weapon gets stashed on Link's back if he takes to the air, performs a Weak Point Smash, or a Special Attack. Attacking with it lowers the Durability Gauge until it breaks. Once it breaks, the gauge will refill slowly until the Flails are ready to copy again. The Durability Gauge can refill by attacking enemies once Link has completed the Ability Enhancement Quest for the Flails.

The Flails can only be made within the EX Royal Ancient Lab by trading in the materials needed to complete their related Quest. As they count as Material Quests, they can completed as many times as possible as long as players have the spare Materials.

The Flail variants, and their unique are as followed:

  • The first variant, the Guardian Flail, is obtained by completing "A Helping Claw". The Guardian Flail's Strong I button input moves Link forward and attack as he makes his hop.
  • The second variant, the Fortified Flail, is obtained by completing "Magnificent Mass". The Fortified Flail's Strong I button input conjures a shield in front of Link that can behave exactly like a Perfect Guard when times right.
  • The third and final variant, the Ancient Bladed Flail, is obtained by completing "The Blazing-Blue Blades". The Ancient Bladed Flail's Strong I button input makes Link aim then fire a blast from the heads.
