The Gale boomerang is similar to its ordinary counterpart that Zelda fans have come to know so well. However, the Gale boomerang, found in the Forest Temple in LoZ: Twilight Princess, has some features that were not present in the original models. It still shares the regular features of previous boomerangs, such as stunning enemies, killing weaker ones, and collecting far-away items.

The biggest difference is the mini-tornado that is produced when the boomerang is launched. It works similar to the boomerang in the Windwaker, giving Link the option to lock on up to five targets. It is used for many purposes throughout the game, such as spinning fans, turning the direction of bridges, and catching golden bugs located across Hyrule.

The Gale boomerang is the key item needed to defeat the Forest Temple's boss, Diababa.
