Template:Boss Hektan[1] (pronounced /ˈhɛktæn/ HEK-tan)[2] is the fifth boss in The Wand of Gamelon, and is located in Dodomai Palace.

Biography

Hektan is an old wizard with blue hair and robes. He is a minion of Ganon. He captures Lord Kiro by Ganon's order and holds him in Dodomai Palace, Duke Onkled's castle, after Ganon imprisons King Harkinian. Zelda fights Hektan in the palace. If Zelda speaks to Impa, who is located in another room, they witness Hektan who taunts Zelda by disappearing and reappearing randomly. She however defeats him, and he dissolves into a pool of blue liquid and leaves behind a beating Life Heart. Zelda frees Lord Kiro afterwards and learns from him that Duke Onkled had betrayed King Harkinian.

Strategy

Hektan is capable of sending fireballs that deal several hearts worth of damage if they strike Zelda. He is however weak to the sword, and a single slash will defeat him. The Magic Cloak can also be used to sneak up close to him. Although while he seems to possess the ability to vanish in one of his cutscenes, he remains visible throughout his battle.

Trivia

  • Hektan is similar to the The Faces of Evil boss, Harlequin. Both bosses demonstrate the ability to disappear and reappear in their cutscenes, yet do not actually possess this ability in their boss battles.

Etymology

Hektan may be derived from Hecate, the Greco-Roman goddess of witchcraft.
