Wolfos are wolf-like enemies that appear in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Characteristics

In terms of appearance, Wolfos are grey anthropomorphic wolf-like creatures with green eyes that commonly appear in forest environments. In Ocarina of Time, they appear in the Sacred Forest Meadow, the Forest Temple, the Ice Cavern, the Spirit Temple, and Ganon's Castle. In Majora's Mask, they appear near the Southern Swamp and replace the White Wolfos of Snowhead after Snowhead has been defrosted. A single Wolfos also appears in Sakon's Hideout as part of the mechanism that protects the Sun Mask. Both types of Wolfos have a weakness to fire.

Weaknesses

A Wolfos can be a difficult enemy to beat if Link is not used to hard fighting. One strategy is to Z-Target it and use the shield constantly, then attack when it drops its guard. However, the best strategy is to back away when the Wolfos goes to attack, which will cause its raking claws to miss, and it will spin around, leaving its back exposed: if Link hits the tail, it will be defeated instantly.[1] Another way to beat it is to use the Hookshot or a Deku Nut to freeze it, and then attack at will.

Trivia

  • The colors of Wolf Link's fur are reminiscent of those of a Wolfos.
  • Despite the names implying that the Wolfos is the default form or a more basic enemy than the White Wolfos, the White Wolfos is more common, appearing in four games to the Wolfos's two.
