The Creation of the World,[1] also known as the Creation Myth,[2] is an in-universe myth within The Legend of Zelda series about how the land of Hyrule was created by the three Golden Goddesses. The original version of this myth appears in the A Link to the Past instruction manual.[3] This myth would be retold in Ocarina of Time, and again in an abbreviated form in Twilight Princess. In Echoes of Wisdom, the Goddesses themselves reveal their untold reasons for why they created the world.

Overview

During the Creation of the World, the three Golden Goddesses created the land of Hyrule (not to be confused with Hyrule Kingdom, which exists within the land of Hyrule).[1] Din created the land, Nayru created order, and Farore created all life.[2] The Goddesses then departed for the heavens. The Triforce was formed at the point where the goddesses left the world, and it's resting place became the Sacred Realm.[3][4][5]

Before the Creation of the World, there was only a void, where everything that began to exist would be devoured by Null. The reason for creating the world was to contain Null. The Tris were then created to repair the rifts in the world that Null would occasionally create.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, the Great Deku Tree recounts the full Creation of the World shortly before his death, after Link defeats Gohma.

Twilight Princess

In Twilight Princess, Lanayru tells Link a shortened version along with the Banishment of the Twili, after Link collects all the Tears of Light in the Lanayru region

Echoes of Wisdom

In Echoes of Wisdom, after Princess Zelda collects her second Goddess Sanction, Din, Nayru, or Farore explains that long before the world existed, the being called Null endlessly consumed all things that emerged from the formless void. To prevent it from devouring existence, the Golden Goddesses used the land of Hyrule itself to seal Null away and created the Tris to stop it from opening Rifts that would return the world to nothingness.
