Following the defeat of {{Term|TotK|Dark Beast Ganon|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} and {{Term|TotK|Zelda|link}} move into {{Term|TotK|Link's House|link}} in {{Term|TotK|Hateno Village|link}}. When {{Term|TotK|Gloom|link}} begins to seep out from underneath {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Purah|link}} tasks the duo with investigating its source. As they travel {{Term|TotK|beneath Hyrule Castle|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} takes note of the architecture and writing, concluding it to be {{Term|TotK|Zonai|link}} in origin. {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} also finds a mural and explains to {{Term|TotK|Link}} that it likely depicts the events of the {{Term|TotK|Imprisoning War|link}}, an event that occurred around the time of {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Kingdom|link}}'s founding that shaped the course of history. When they reach the depths of the tunnels {{Term|TotK|Beneath Hyrule Castle}}, they stumble upon a mummified body with a {{Term|TotK|Right Arm|link}} gripping its chest. The hand lets go of its grip and drops its {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone|link}} when {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} draws near. After {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} picks up the {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone}}, the mummified body awakens and spews {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} toward {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}. {{Term|TotK|Link}} deflects the attacks in an attempt to protect {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}, but the {{Term|TotK|Gloom|link}} corrupted {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s arm and torso and caused the {{Term|TotK|Master Sword}} to break. {{Term|TotK|Ganondorf}} then releases a strong burst of {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} upward, tearing {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle}} from the ground around it and sending it into the {{Term|TotK|Sky|link}}. This causes the ground beneath all of them to collapse, sending the three into a freefall. While {{Term|TotK|Link}} attempts to grab {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} midair, the {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone}} she picked up begins to glow and she is sent to the distant past.
