Hmm... shouldn't there perhaps be a link to the actual game's page? I usually just type the games title when I am looking for it, so I typed in Minish Cap, but it brought me here, instead of to the game's page. Should there be a link, directing you to the game if you meant to go there...? --HelmarocKing 16:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, there are several instances of "The Minish Cap" being linked to the game's page... Including one right in the first sentence. I say it's not too big of an issue (especially considering that the actual title of the game is "THE Minish Cap"). --Ando (T) 17:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There is another issue concerning the game that I would like to point out. Apparently some people got confused and thought exlo was the minish cap, which is understandable, but they linked to this page. I don't know which pages do this, but it is something to keep an eye out for ;) --Magnus orion 21:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I thought the naming standards would be Minish Cap (item) and Minish Cap (game). The title should be clear on what the page's content is, even if the game is THE Minish Cap. Axiomist (talk) 02:09, 5 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think it's very important to note that not once in the game do they actually call this hat the Minish Cap. I think it's very safe to assume that the Minish Cap title refers to Ezlo in his hat form. Look at it this way, on the box cover, next to the title "Minish Cap" do you see this hat or do you see Ezlo in hat form? The answer is you see Ezlo in hat form. I really don't think that the title of Minish Cap refers to this hat and I definitely don't think this hat is called the Minish Cap at all. Look at the text dump for the item. Every instance the hat is mentioned it is never called the Minish Cap. Zemen125 03:30, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This could cut both ways, as Ezlo is never once called the "Minish Cap" in the game either. However, it was by the power of the so-called "Minish Cap" (you are correct that it's never called that in-game too, though this is implied as it is a Minish creation) that Ezlo was transformed in the first place and Vaati's original source of power. This cap is also the thing that ultimately enables all to be put back to the way things once were at the end of the story, something Ezlo in cap form could not do. I see your argument and understand it that the title could apply to both the cap and Ezlo in cap form, but I see no reason to change the title of this article as this cap was the driving force behind the events that sparked the story of the game and ultimately restored things to normal at its close. Link87 03:37, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This is how I see it. The title of the games always refers to an item that is used by Link in the games (i.e. Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass), or a character who helps Link in the games (i.e. Twilight Princess, Oracle of Ages/Seasons). Link does not use the hat created by Ezlo nor is the cap made by Ezlo a character that helps Link. Ezlo is not only a literal Minish Cap, but he is an "item" that Link uses and a character that helps Link throughout the game. It only makes sense to me that the Minish Cap IS Ezlo. Still, Ezlo is not the one that is able to complete the story, only the true item (the Minish Cap) is able to do that in the end. The title applies to both, but this cap was the thing that started and ended the story. Yes, Ezlo is an item and companion in the game, but the thing that set off the entire series of events and that restored things to normal in the end was the Minish Cap created by Ezlo, not Ezlo himself. Note also that at the end of each game, the title character or item is typically used to close the game in some way (Ocarina of Time sends Link back to his own time, Midna shatters the Mirror of Twilight, etc.) and that is carried on with the Minish Cap, as it is used to restore all to normal before the closing of the game. For what it's worth, according to the back of the box: "Using the power of a mystical hat called the Minish Cap, the Hylian hero will shrink down for a massive quest...on a microscopic scale!" Taxi4Dave 18:18, 04 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not the Minish Cap, but the Sorcerer's Cap

For some reason everyone thinks this is the Minish Cap. And although neither Ezlo nor this cap are referred to as 'minish cap' in game, the game title refers to Ezlo as the Minish Cap quite explicitly. He was the marketing icon for the game! The cap Ezlo MADE is actually given a name in game. Seriously it's named by Ezlo as the "Sorcerer's Cap" at the times where it's concerned. People seem to forget that. So this article really should be changed to help alleviate this annoying misinformation. Meganerd18 23:23, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I looked through the Text Dump and I couldn't find a mention of the Sorcerer's Cap (or Minish Cap, for that matter). This is when Ezlo talks about the cap and he doesn't give it a name:
But...he became enchanted by the wickedness in the hearts of men. One day, Vaati took a hat I made for the humans--my pride and joy. It granted the wishes of its wearer. He put it on without permission...
You haven't changed in the slightest. I should never have created that cap. It only fueled your insane desires!
There is, however, one instance in which he refers it to as the "mage's cap," but not capitalized:
My name is Ezlo, master of Minish lore and sorcery. The mage's cap was my creation.
So I guess we can make a redirect to mage's cap and sorcerer's cap to here. Dany36 00:15, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It may not be capitalized, but it's the closest the game comes to naming the cap. Whereas the Minish Cap is clearly made out to be Ezlo just from the simple promotional materials, plus the reason the game was called Minish Cap was in part a reference to the fact it lets Link become smaller, which was an advertising point as well. Point is there's more evidence against the 'mage's cap' being the 'minish cap' than for it.Meganerd18 00:07, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's made by a "Minish" sage, and it's a "cap" that was responsible for setting the game's events into motion and ultimately resolving them. That's about all the evidence necessary at least for me. I agree it can apply to Ezlo as well, but Ezlo was not always a cap nor did he remain one after the game's creation. Link87 04:00, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There really isn't enough to say without a doubt which one is the actual Minish Cap. And with even this level of uncertainty it's not right to say have this cap be called such as if it was the wiki's official stance. A LOT of characters and places we have articles for here are named after something they were called informally when we lack something better. This concept is not a conjectural title. It uses an actual name that was applied to it. When you lack a formal name for something, you call it by its next best informal name. That's not conjecture. We should move this page to Mage's Cap.
