Song?

"The "Sonata of Awakening" is a song [...]"
A song includes lyrics/singing. That Link with his ocarina can only play the melody of a song, isn't the problem here, but: Isn't a sonata always instrumental music, so always without lyrics/singing? Thus this sonata wouldn't be a song too - or? - and thus the term "Ocarina songs in Majora's Mask" would be wrong too, at least when all Ocarina musics in Majora's Mask are meant.

  • en.wp(1): "Sonata (music), a musical term for a piece played as opposed to sung".
  • en.wp(2): "Sonata [...] means a piece played as opposed to a cantata [...], a piece sung."
  • thefreedictionary: a) "so·na·ta [...] A composition for one or more solo instruments", b) "sonata [...] an instrumental composition", c) "so•na•ta [...] a musical composition for solo instrument or a small number of instruments"

IMHO it is, but in the template it's still "Songs of The Legend of Zelda" etc. As far as I can see, the only logical way to call all Ocarina melodies songs is by
  1. Claiming that all songs, like Saria's song, are actually songs (with lyrics/vocals), even though Link with his ocarina can only play the melody of the songs
  2. Claiming that "Sonata of Awakening" is the name of a song, like one could create pop or rock song and call it "Rap of <something>". Though: If someone would call a pop or rock song a rap or a song a sonata, wouldn't it look like the someone is trolling or kind of insane/retarded?

Or we can simply claim that "song" has a different meaning in the Zelda universe and leave it at that. My opinion on that hasn't changed. — Hylian King [*] 13:16, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
