Just a Question

Hey, I have a question and I thought I would ask you since you're an admin and I've noticed you're really active here. It's about the achievement system on this wiki. Why am I not getting any for my edits and stuff? Is there something you have to do to get that set up or something? I know it doesn't really matter, but I like seeing how much I've helped this wiki out when I do stuff. BlackDragon 19:52, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Since this is a Gamepedia feature and our Wiki Team knows absolutely nothing about this, I asked someone from Gamepedia for you and this was his response:

"He is suffering from a weird bug we see occasionally where his Global ID hasn't been picked up properly. I'll ticket the issue and once we get the ID resolved everything should pop into place. Rest assured that its mostly cosmetic, and edits are still being logged."

He also told me to have you log out entirely and clear your cookies and cache and log back in to see if that resolves it. Otherwise, sounds like it should be fixed in due time. Hope that clears everything up! Hylian pi (talk) 20:05, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Question Regarding Editing

Hello Hylian pi :-) I have a question. I noticed that you deleted my edit on Prince Sidon's etymology. After speaking with another editor, I went back to remove some things, but saw you had deleted that Sidon's name could originate from the Greek god Poseidon, who ruled the ocean, and replaced it with the fact that there's a city called Sidon in Lebanon. Is there something wrong posing that "Sidon" could originate from Po"seidon"? I'm not mad, just sort of confused. Could you please explain why you deleted it to me, so I'm aware of the mistake and don't make a similar one in the future? If nothing is the matter could I place it again?

As a side note, thanks for critiquing me and holding me a accountable. I'm still a newbie. Editing the etymologies has been kind of confusing, because I've been going by other's edits since there isn't an Etymology section on the Zelda Wiki:Quality Standards page. Okay...let me try to clarify everything as best as I can. I want to be direct as possible with you so that you understand what's going on. First let me give you a little backstory about myself. I am a trainee here. I am nearly a full admin, I have been editing here a lot, but I have only just started here in January. I know almost nothing about Etymology, and am actually just as in the dark as you are. When I initially noticed your edits, I asked our director if what you were doing was okay. A vague conclusion was reached, and it seemed like the right thing to do was to ask you to use a better source, like Behind The Name.

Fast forward time to recently...your edits were briefly discussed again and that's when Midoro decided to contact you and tell you that you can't add to Etymology anymore. There has been ambiguous and unclear talk among our staff about what type of Etymology is allowed and what is not, but no concrete conclusion has been reached. It is likely that our director has not cleared this up because we are currently in the process of rewriting our policies. I have used my best judgement as to what goes and what stays, but unfortunately, there really are no right answers yet. Having said that, I will restore my Prince Sidon edit in case it will be kept in the future. For now, let's just leave Etymology sections untouched until we know what's going on. Once that time comes, I will be sure that you know exactly what's going. I feel like I should apologize on behalf of myself and the staff for all of this. You put a lot of work into these Etymology sections, and there has not really been a consistent message to you for what you should be doing. But I promise you, this will be fixed.

So, basically, the answer is that I can't fully answer your question right now, but I will. Zelda Wiki is currently writing new guidelines and policy. We are in a heavy transition period right now and we have been overloaded for the past month because of the massive Breath of the Wild. Again, I'm really sorry for all of this, but I just want to assure you that we are working on making a clear, definite policy for this and many other things. Hello Ciela, sorry about the long wait but I finally have things sorted out for you in regards to etymology, now known as nomenclature. So, first off let me explain that in a best case scenario, we like to handle nomenclature as a group effort. For example, after we are finished writing the bulk of Breath of the Wild content (still have a long way to go on that), we plan on going through the nomenclature as a group and working on names. The difficult and complicated part about name origins in particular is that it is not always black and white. We here at Zelda Wiki have very high quality standards and want to ensure that we do everything right. This is why we would prefer to work on things as a group, and not leave it to a single person.

So, the conclusion is that all dubious name origins should be discussed via talk page first, and provided a majority of support for it is present, it can be added as a potential origin. Dubious name origins include any relation to real-world mythological deities, names of objects in the real world, or names of cities in the real world. If a running theme is present and identifiable, these should be discussed on the page which shares the most common relation among them. For example, almost all of the Zora names in BotW have a musical theme to them, so you would discuss this on the talk page for Zora. We want you to keep contributing to Zelda Wiki and we really appreciate your work, but it would be best if we discussed these types of things before adding them to the page.

I hope that clears everything up. Our director, Tony, apologizes for this whole mess and we're sorry it took this long to give you a clear answer about these edits. After looking over the Fuzo page, one thing I've noticed that you do a lot is phrases like: "Link asks him if any cannons are available for purchase, Fuzo explaining that..." There are a few issues with writing this way, using a noun and a participle such as "Fuzo explaining" after a comma. I'm fairly certain that it is not proper grammar. However, another issue is that it sounds like you're writing about two simultaneous events. If you wrote it more grammatically correct, like: "Link asks him if any cannons are available for purchase, with Fuzo explaining that..." It makes it sound less point A to point B and more like they both happened at the same time. That's why I changed the sentence to: "Link first meets Fuzo when he lands on Cannon Island and asks if any cannons are available for purchase. Fuzo introduces himself as Eddo's apprentice and explains that Eddo is currently using them all to construct a new cannon." I also added the info about his introduction. When writing character pages I try to take note when a character introduces themselves. There's no rule that you have to, but I just personally think it's good to add it to better convey the conversation's flow. Also, I mentioned it in my edit summary but you should double check your second quote because it looks a little bit off to me. N64 or 3DS Screenshots?

Hello, I was planning to add some additional images to the Helping Romani and Cremia article, and I was wondering if you guys prioritize N64 screenshots or 3DS? Personally, I'd do an unbiased mixture of both. What about you? Cremia2000 ( My talk) 22:56, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Like you said, ideally both. We have rules for infoboxes, though. They should always depict the most recent game, even if it is a remake. So, just make sure the infobox uses an image from MM3D. Other than that, it's great to have images from both. Hylian pi (talk) 23:19, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Tower Locations

What do you mean tower locations are inconsistent? Their boundaries are outlined in game (well at least before getting the region map) and there are plenty of maps, both physically and online, that show their locations. --Hoennmaster08 (talk) 06:51, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant they are inconsistent with other information, such as geography, dialogue, and the save file. We have determined that a Tower's boundaries has no correlation with an area's boundaries. For example, any section of the Wasteland Tower's region that is rocky as opposed to desert sand is known as the Gerudo Highlands. If we were to label things only by tower, then half of the Gerudo Highlands would be labeled under Gerudo Desert. According to several characters, Great Hyrule Forest is actually a part of the Eldin Region, so we treat it as a subregion of Eldin, yet there is nothing on the map to suggest this. There's a lot more examples but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Unfortunately, we just cannot rely on the map. Our staff was annoyed with this as well. I personally checked the save file of every Shrine in the game, so please rest assured that the page is accurate as it is. Hylian pi (talk) 07:55, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Shrine Page

Thanks for letting me know where to find the correct infobox and for adding information to the Dah Hesho Shrine I didn't know was necessary to add! One question, though: Do we need to reference what the Monk at the end of the Shrines say on every page? Because it seems like something that would be referenced on just the Monk's page itself. Yeah, we have been adding each Monk's quotes on each Shrine page even though there are only 3 possible sets of quotes. It may seem redundant, but if we mention that the Monk says something on the Shrine's page, then it's good practice to cite what they said. I believe the Dah Hesho page still needs the quote that the Monk says when Link enters the Shrine, which should be easy to find on any "Test of Strength" Shrine page. I noticed a lot of the Shrine pages, as well as various area pages from Breath of the Wild, are missing, so I thought I'd help with those when I'm able.
