Image Requests

This is where any requests of images that need fixing goes. If you see any images that look like they could be fixed or rendered from a colored background here at the wiki or at another site, let me know and I will see what I can do.Steve

I gave that Faron image a shot. I could only get one ray to look right. You could try again. Putting a black-filled layer behind it while working helps out a lot. Using the smudge tool makes the rays stand out more.Emma (Talk) 14:52, November 23, 2008 (UTC)

Sure I'll try that. I hadn't thought about using the smudge tool before, but that might actually work.Steve 14:54, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I hate to ask this of you, seeing as you just edited these images, but that Dimitri and Moosh image you recently added (and maybe you added a Ricky I didn't spot)...could you possibly edit Link out of those images, like Link was edited out of the Felicia image? I just feel that they will look better if you can do that.

Thanks in advance :) --Felicia's Champion 11:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I'll give it a whirl.Steve 21:14, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mission accomplished! I think I'll start working on all of the Oracle images, as they are under similar circumstances.Steve 22:34, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Agreed. Good luck with that :) --Felicia's Champion 22:42, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We need a transparent pic of the Nintendo DS Lite logo. I tried and didn't have much success. A good based image can be found here.Emma (Talk) 22:24, December 22, 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I'll do that, didn't Mel upload one for the userbox though?Steve 12:38, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, yes. But it wasn't quite like that. I now direct you to the very end of this.Emma (Talk) 13:15, December 23, 2008 (UTC)
This sandbox is nearly abandoned. That would be a good place to test it out in.Emma (Talk) 14:21, December 23, 2008 (UTC)

Ahoy there! Any chance you could work your magic on this image? Not sure if it's easier to sharpen up the original version, or fix the outline on the new version I uploaded (probably the latter). Cheers! Adam [ talk ] 08:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Excellent job, as always! Adam [ talk ] 14:03, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Steve, did you have those LoZ images to upload? The artwork for the items. You said you were waiting to finish them so you can upload them in bulk. There was only I think 6-7 images. Was wondering what the status is with those. Thanks! Mases 21:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Steve, can you update me on the status here? Mases 07:08, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yo. If it's not too much trouble, could you give me a cross-section of the Hero's Shade's sword? One that is around the same size as the Master Sword's on the Master Sword page. And again, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like you to capture both sides of it. Thanks. Death Sword 18:17, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks, Steven. :) You're a pretty awesome dude. Death Sword 01:12, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmm? I did upload it, I figured you put it on the page by now. Steve 23:54, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Page? I used it to settle a dispute/edit war with a dude. When I got the image you gave me, it was like Christmas. Death Sword 04:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Steve, if you get time, could you perhaps locate the game widget of the Light Force that appears on a completed file menu for the Minish Cap?? I have been trying to locate it myself, but have been unsuccessful thus far. It may not be called a widget, but it's the figures and items that actually appear in the game or on the menus. I'd like to put that into the article on the Light Force since that is one of the only times we actually see it in the triangle form as an item. Thanks a bunch man! Link87 18:35, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sure, I can complete both of those requests, the Light Force one I'm not sure, but I do know a place that should definitely have it. Steve 20:03, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

EDIT: Yeah, I looked it up, and it doesn't actually appear in the game.

Yeah I know, it doesn't actually appear in the game, it only appears on a completed file menu for the game. So there's no way to get that widget from the file menu?? Link87 21:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Absence

Yeah, I know I've been gone awhile, I lost the power on Friday and just got it back, so I'm going to start back on my images now then. Steve 18:10, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You mean that you have been without power for a few days? That had to suck!Emma (Talk) 18:55, December 15, 2008 (UTC)
Yeah it was crazy, we hooked up a generator so we at lest had water and heat.Steve 18:59, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Twilight Sword

How did you create the Twilight Sword picture? It's amazing! I've never seen anything like it! Your pictures are amazing!--Link hero of light 01:14, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It was a part of a Zelda weapons pack for Warcraft, and I just removed from one of the screenshots, though the twilight markings were white, so I traced them with red, as it's supposed to. There's actually a good Master Sword and double Clawshot as well that I might use.Steve 14:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help with GIMP

I need a little help with GIMP. Can you tell me how make text curve into an arch? I need it for a project I'm working on at ZU.Emma (Talk) 19:52, December 21, 2008 (UTC)

First, you'll need to use the path tool in the shape of you want (in this case an arch). Once that's done make a text box and type your desired text and then click the "text to path button". This will create a path out of your text and in the shape of the one you made before. After that, just switch to the paths tool, click on your text path and use the "path to selection" button and fill it with whatever color you want.Steve 20:45, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I figured that it was something like that. I was just missing one important step. The sig shop is Matt's Signature Shop. Feel free to comment on it over there!Emma (Talk) 21:16, December 21, 2008 (UTC)

Can you make the backround of these pictures match the background of ZW.org?

Large images

Hi there, I just noticed the changes you made to your Fyrus and Death Sword images; they look great with the background colour included! However, the file size really shot through the roof, particularly bearing in mind that the Fyrus image is already featured on the Main Page regularly. Is there any way to create a version with reduced file size, maybe even reducing the dimensions if necessary? I wouldn't ask if it weren't on the Main Page, but I'm just a little concerned that it could cause performance issues for those still on slower connections... Adam [ talk ] 08:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Absolutely, I can take care of that pronto.Steve 14:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for that Adam [ talk ] 14:38, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Userbox Question

I have a question about one of your userbox things. I have several on my page, but I want to put the one up with how many edits I have made. I couldn't find it on the help page. Can you help? Thanks! :) DisappearingMist 20:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm not Steven. But, here it is User Edit. Just make sure you enter your username correctly in it.Emma (Talk) 20:23, January 19, 2009 (UTC)

Question

I noticed that you deleted one of the images I put up, and put down "Superseded: Look before uploading! Thank you". How am I supposed to find if an image already exists? (sorry, I'm still kind new here!) —Alter 22:04, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The easiest way is to search, then scroll down to advanced search, and deselect everything except for "Images". Then type what you're checking, say "Tingle", and all images with "Tingle" in their name will show up, so there's no confusion.Steve 22:17, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, thanks! —Alter 22:34, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Or even easier, go here, type what you're looking for in the box, hit search ;) Adam [ talk ] 22:50, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Welcome messages

Hi (or hello?)

Just a quick note on welcoming new users to the wiki; I've noticed that recently you've used either the wrong template or incorrect formatting to do this. The correct (and only) way we should be using the welcome templates is:

{{subst:hi|<yourusernamehere>}}

I've noticed a lot of variations on this, mainly either forgetting to "subst" or using the Hello tempalte directly, but neither are correct. The subst is necessary as it places the entire paragraph of text in the user's talk page (a lot clearer and easier to understand/respond to for a new or inexperienced user). Using the Hello template is not appropriate as it misses off the section header; also, why would you want to type something longer than necessary? ;) Please don't think I'm nagging for the sake of it, I just think that with so few of us actually doing the welcoming, it'd be nice to get some consistency going. Thanks! Adam [ talk ] 07:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I might also add that you should change the edit summary to say Welcome. That makes it look more professional.Emma (Talk) 08:22, February 6, 2009 (UTC)

Changes

Let's cut to the chase- Why'd you change my nav? Was something wrong with it? Alter  {T C B H } 23:57, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I came back and saw that in the Recent Changes, that's not good, I know I didn't do that.Steve 00:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

GIMP Question

Since you seem to be quite advanced when it comes to using GIMp, I was hoping that you could answer a question of mine; How do i add a transparent background to an image? Thanks. Alter  {T C B H } 22:51, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's not an easy task, especially for something that isn't a one-color background. I use the Paths Tool, it's like a connect the dots tool (it looks lie an ink pen on the toolbar). I always keep the path set to 'polygonal', make the dots around, and then switch from 'design' to 'edit' and uncheck 'polygonal' and make curves where they are needed.Steve 20:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok, thanks! I really appreciate it! Alter  {T C B H } 20:41, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sacred Realm

Hey Steven, I have a small issue that has been brought up by another admin, Adam, that I am hoping perhaps you can help resolve: I have recently been doing a rewrite of the Sacred Realm page b/c I noticed it had a tag for needing improvement. I was in the middle of rewriting it when I had to leave my computer for the day yesterday and decided I'd be back today to finish editing what I'd written and removing anything that I felt wasn't necessary at the end. I also noticed comments made about it to that effect overnight by Dany and hadn't yet gotten to respond that I agreed with what he was saying. By the time I got back to the page, Adam had locked the page and cited an imaginary edit war as his justification for locking the page and reverting all work I'd already done to the page. I tried to explain to him that I was not done with work to the page yet and that I agreed with what Dany had been saying, but he refused to remove the lock on the page so I could return to working on it. He gave me no opportunity to make known my agreement with Dany nor did he give me a chance to finish up work on the article. There was no edit war here and there really wasn't any disagreement, so I see no reason for a lock on the page. If you could unlock the page for me, I'd like to return to work on it, along with anyone else interested in helping me rewrite it. I think Dany was looking over it too, so I'm sure he'd be a help in improving it too. But we need Adam's lock removed from the page, so if you could do that it'd be very much appreciated. Hero of Time

Hi steve. Hi um... I was just working on... you know... that new page of mine. Um... I was wondoring why you deleted it. It was just stumping me... I mean... It seems perfectly legal right? So yeah if you could just... tell me... why you deleted it... that would be useful... cause I just guess I'm feeling a little frusterated right now. But yeah... so why?

sincerly smashbrother101 15:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There isn't enough information about the film, or any images either. We decided we were going to hold off on a page for it, until it was released to the internet public.Steve 15:44, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok... But why'd you delete the image? smashbrother101 15:46, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Because we don't keep images that aren't going to be used on pages, it adds on to the list of images to delete (and a large on at that).Steve 15:49, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I see... Well I have asked Hero of Time for more information on the film... so we may be able to create the page faster than we thought. I see though Zeldapedia has one articale up about it (not saying that Zelda Wiki has to follow Zeldapedia at all- oh no- ofcourse not!). smashbrother101 15:53, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That would be find, and Zeldapedia rips stuff from us all the time. Actually, if you can use the logo too, that'd be great, since the more the better. We just didn't want a one sentence article, is all. Also, name the article "The Hero of Time".Steve 15:55, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh yeah. I was working on it. I didn't plan it to be just one sentance...but why would you want to call it just the "Hero of Time" instead of the "Le"- oh.... because you don't want people thinking it's a game right? Ahh... I see now. Thankz! smashbrother101 16:07, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That, and because the movie title is just "The Hero of Time", remember to have "The" in the title.Steve 16:08, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah, I see why it was deleted now, Steven has a point. The film is unreleased for any real judgment, but next time the article is made I suggest the page title "The Hero of Time (Fan-film)". Axiomist (talk) 20:19, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We'll probably need a disambiguation page for "hero of time", too.Steve 20:27, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why would we need to call it "the Hero of Time (Fan-Film)"? I mean it is a fan film, but so far it's the only film. And, ofcourse, it has been screened a t a theatre, so couldn't you say that it goes beyond simple fan-film? smashbrother101 21:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Because the Hero of Time also refers to Link in OoT, and also it is a fan-film because it isn't endorsed by Nintendo. It was only showed in theaters near their home town, anyway, only special screenings.Steve 23:07, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's still a screening though. But good point about the referencing to OoT thing. I actually completely forgot (I truly am just focasing in my head on this Zelda game that I'm thinking up!). But we still could call it "Hero of Time (Film)". I mean a movie is a movie. Actually, is it true that Nintendo hasn't approved it? smashbrother101 12:33, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes it is true, Nintendo never endorsed it, nor is their logo on the movie poster, and if it isn't officially endorsed by a real film company, it cannot be considered a film, but rather a fan-film.Steve 20:09, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re:Hyrule page

Yes, "us", such as others who have actually offered to help with it such as Ganondorfdude11 and Dany. We'd just love to have you guys help out too, and if you actually showed an example of how you would like things, it would make it easier for people like me to meet your wishes. It wouldn't be such a bad idea for you to do that, and it may even help strengthen bonds between all of us rather than reduce us to this pointless squabbling. And yes, I have been very close to leaving because the only two people that have been respectful to me have been Axiomist and Dany, and if it weren't for them, I would have left long ago. But I want to see this wiki rise up to become the best source of Zelda information of any on the web, and it wouldn't serve the wiki well to do that, so I have tolerated certain people for that reason. I am not against you Steven, or any of your colleagues for that matter. I respect all of you because you all share the passion for Zelda that I have long held myself all my life, and it's hard to find people that are passionate about it where I am. But I believe in the Code of Hamurabi: An eye for an eye. You show respect, I show respect. If you are polite, then I will also be polite and will always work with anyone willing to be so. But if I feel I am being dissed or disrespected, you're not going to find me a very agreeable person. I want to work with you guys and perhaps take on an even more active role in the wiki one day, but you have to be willing to meet me halfway too, that road goes both ways.
As far as the article, I have planned to have two paragraphs for each appearance: the first paragraph shall detail the appearance of Hyrule and the features that that particular game has introduced to Hyrule's overall template; the second paragraph shall give a bit of detail as far as the background of the game goes and how it relates to Hyrule's development plotwise. There shall only be two paragraphs a piece to control size but still offer ample detail so as to set a compromise between those who want it brief and those who want detail. Now, does that sound agreeable to you? Link87 20:18, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You are right, and I apologize for everything that I said, be it hurtful to you or not. I've looked at your current work on the section of the page, and it honestly isn't bad at all, and I've discussed it with the others. They're also willing to accept this section, and actually insist that you continue to work on it.Steve 20:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for your understanding, and I too apologize if I offended you or anyone else in any way. I am glad to hear that the other admins are all agreeable to the format I worked out too, and of course I shall continue to work on it as well. We'd be more than happy to have you guys in on it too though if you'd like. As long as we keep the general format, it doesn't have to be just me writing each one. For example, as long as the format is paragraph one is about geographic and locale changes and introductions and paragraph two is about the story and how it affects Hyrule's development as a plot device, then we could all have a part in it. But that is only if you guys want to. I know you guys have a lot of things that you have to do as far as your patrol duties go too, so that is understandable if your time is limited due to that. But feel free to come help us out though. ;) Link87 20:41, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Picture Policy

Hey Steven, I'm sorry to bother you, but I have a quick question: how flexible are we on using pictures from Super Smash Brothers Brawl for certain articles? I saw that you removed Ganondorfdude11's main picture for Hyrule on the grounds that it was non-canon, and I tried to find a compromise image that featured everything from the game itself, but the compromise image just does not have the majesty and color that the original one put up by Ganondorfdude11 before had. I see we have other pictures on here from SSBB such as Dark Link and others, so I was just wondering if perhaps we could be flexible in this case as well and incorporate his image back into the article since both games were developed by the same people and the same elements were used to make both. Would this be violating any official rules? Or can we afford to be flexible at all in this case? Thanks for your time man, and I hope to hear back from you soon. Link87 03:08, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, okay. Basically, the Super Smash Bros. images aren't canonical to the main series, so they really only belong in the few Smash Bros. articles we have. But, yes, when it comes to main series articles, especially large ones, such as Hyrule, we need to use canonical images. As for the Dark Link one from Brawl, that actually shouldn't be used in any Zelda article ( unless it's featured in a SSB section). So if it isn't, it should be removed. I have to say, the current one fits the Hyrule article more, anyway, since the other was both from Super Smash Bros. as well as depicting the bridge of Eldin.
Actually, that one Ganondorfdude11 just uploaded fits perfectly.Steve 03:34, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I see, and that does make sense. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I do appreciate your promptness. And yes, I REALLY like the one he just uploaded too, but where is the bottom part of the image?? Link87 03:40, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would think possibly a watermark, assuming this is from a site like IGN (which we wouldn't want), but who knows?Steve 03:42, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes that is possible, but either way, I think I like this image he found better than any I've seen yet. I just wish it had more of a bottom, but even so I love the image as is, even if we don't have one that covers more of the image's area. Link87 03:45, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Steven, do you know of anyone that has experience at removing certain things that overlay over pictures?? The Hyrule picture does exist with a beautiful shot of Hyrule as shown but even more complete. We need someone to remove the bubbles and Midna from the picture though. Do you know how to do that or know of anyone that can??? Link87 03:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do have the ability to do that, but only as a last result, as it is a long process to do so, but definitely possible.Steve 04:31, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Moving the April fools page

Hey steven I was the one who suggested to move the EMG April Fools. I'm still new and getting used to the site so I apologize for not putting a destination on the templete... I didn't know how to, but I put a comment on the dicussion page suggesting we should move it to Zelda April Fools Pranks since the page now had two different pranks. 19:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh, okay, I kind of figured that. I was thinking the same thing when I saw the page, but yeah, I think that would be a good move there.Steve 19:58, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Status of Hyrule Pic

Hey Steve, I don't mean to bother you as I know you've probably been busy, but did you get a chance to try to extract that picture for the Hyrule article? Or do you think we can still get it in some way? Or do you think we'll just have to be satisfied with the bit of it we now have? Either way, we appreciate your help with it man. Link87 15:36, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No, there's no other way to get a hold of the image, and either way, the one we have looks good anyway. Steve 15:43, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well I agree, I really like the one we have too. We do appreciate your trying to get it for us though Steve. Oh and btw, do you think we should have an infobox for the article?? It's just an idea, but I didn't know if others felt it would add to the aesthetic look of the article or not. Link87 15:59, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do thinks so, but yes we should. I'm not sure if we have one for location, and if not, it's something that definitely should be made.Steve 16:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well I don't have a lot of experience with coding or designing webpage material, and I would like to make one for location as you said. Do you know of anyone that would be good with that kind of thing?? Or would you perhaps know how to make one for it yourself?? I noticed you're a graphic designer, so I thought perhaps you'd be good with that kind of thing. I don't want to burn you out though, lol. Link87 16:05, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll talk to the other admins when they get on, to find exactly what criteria should be on the template.Steve 16:17, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That would be wonderful, and I'm glad to hear we can get their input for it. Thanks a bunch man, and keep me posted when we have the other admins' input on the template so we can get the template into the article. I think that will be a nice opening to the article as well, and it'll be a good place to feature the picture. Link87 16:30, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hyrulean Soldier Image

Just an aside, but I noticed that the image Hyrule Guard TP.png was deleted after being replaced by an image you uploaded. While the image is an in-game model, the concept art seems to simply be a better image overall, as the model art seems stiffly posed and not very eye-pleasing. I uploaded a new version of the concept art for the soldier, but it has a white background. What is the best way to make a background transparent so that the picture can meet wiki standards?Ganondorfdude11 22:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

GIMP Help

Hey, I was wondering if you could lend me a hand here. I'm trying to figure out how to make animations that are transparent using GIMP. If I use transparent images, the past frames still show up in the background. I know it can be done, as it is seen here: (http://www.zeldawiki.org/File:Link_OoT.gif). Thanks. Ah okay, what you have to do is when saving it, there's a drop down under "frame disposal where unspecified", and then under that select 'one frame per layer'.Steve 21:04, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It doesn't seem to work correctly. It erases part of the image, as seen here: [1]. Thanks for your time. :) Alter  {T C B H } 05:37, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Figured it out. I was selecting "optimize for .gif". GO figure... Alter  {T C B H } 01:00, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Excuse you

Please leave my talk page alone. It isn't your place to censor regular conversation. Thank you.User:Justin ZW/sig 02:11, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

First of all, I am an administrator, so it is very well my place to do so when needed. However, the time in which it says I reverted your edit, was while I was gone, so I'm not exactly sure at all what happened.Steve 02:50, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Jason Needs You

I am making this one edit to get in touch with you, and I would like to say that I am still retired from the wiki. Please see this thread (and Jason) for information. {We need you to do some general image editing and resizing if you are up to it.} User:Austin2862/sig 02:15, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You fat ugly hideous idiot

your so hideous and idiotic. that page needs to change the image to the latest link. Link2 03:04, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for your concern regarding the image, however the image currently being used was voted on by popular vote. As such, for a new one to be used, it must be agreed upon by a majority ruling.Steve 03:11, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
