His name is Merco. He is a member of a highly civilized race of moles called the Mogma. All Mogmas have a deep and abiding love of treasure.

Merco is a blond-haired Mogma who is first found in Eldin Volcano near a big rock in lava with a hole in it. He mentions to Link that he saw Impa enter the hole.[2]

Nomenclature

Merco's name is derived from the metal Mercury.
