Bottle Grotto

Bottle Grotto is the second dungeon in Link's Awakening. The entrance to this dungeon is located within Goponga Swamp. Its dungeon, like the dungeon before it, is located within a cave yet next to the swampy water, However its entrance and other pathways are completely blocked by Gopanga Flowers, which cannot be destroyed by weapons. However once Link clears the Tail Cave dungeon and acquires its instrument, two boys in Mabe Village will report that Madame MeowMeow's pet Bow-Wow had been kidnapped by the Great Moblin and its henchmen. In the Moblins' Hideout, which is in a cave just west of the swamp, the moblins can be found there including the Great Moblin. After defeating the Great Moblin, Madame MeowMeow's Bow-Wow will tag along with Link. The Bow-Wow is the only thing that can clear away the Gopanga Flowers by simply eating them, allowing access to the Bottle Grotto. The interior of this dungeon is mostly gray flooring and blue walls. A few of the rooms are also dark and require Magic Powder to light its torches.

The main tool of this dungeon is the Power Bracelet, which is necessary to move and pick up various things that block Link's way. The boss of the dungeon is a the evil Genie who guards the Conch Horn, the second of the Eight Instruments of the Siren.

When looked on a map, the dungeon is in the shape of a large jug, or a 'bottle' as the name implies. Likewise, this dungeon houses a lot of bottles and the Genie boss lives in a bottle, thus contributing to the bottle theme. This dungeon is also evidently a grotto - a cave that’s located near a source of water and liable to flooding, although no water can be found within this dungeon.

After Link clears this dungeon and gets its instrument, he will then have to return the Bow-Wow back to its owner, Madame MeowMeow in Mabe Village. Doing so will return the Bow-Wow to its home and cannot be used by Link again, thus it will permanently stay there and make revisiting the Bottle Grotto dungeon normally impossible.
