Template:Character Ravio is a mysterious supporting character in A Link Between Worlds. It was revealed that he originated from Lorule until he left for Hyrule to look for a hero and greatly resembles Link without his mask. He has brown eyes and purple hair.

Background

Prior the events of A Link Between Worlds, Ravio is originally from Lorule. He served Princess Hilda along with Yuga until they decided to take the Hyrulean Triforce. Lacking the courage to confront them himself, Ravio somehow fled to Hyrule in search of a hero who could stop them.

Biography

Ravio operates a shop inside of Link's House known as Ravio's Shop, where Link may rent and eventually purchase various items that are critical to reaching and completing certain dungeons.[1] Most items are available from Ravio's Shop near the beginning of the game,[2] allowing Link to proceed through the dungeons in a non-linear fashion. After Link obtains all three Pendants of Virtue, Ravio begins to sell the items that he rents out as well.[3] After Link leaves the shop following this, Ravio tells him of the Quick Equip ability.[4]

After Link purchases all of the items in Ravio's Shop, Ravio thanks the young hero for bringing him so many Rupees and decides to close his shop and enter retirement.[5][6] In his retirement, Ravio can be found laying on the floor of Link's House, philosophizing over various things.[7] Consequently, every time Link enters Ravio's Shop, Ravio will be laying on the floor saying something different, usually how his outlook on life has changed since retirement.[8][9][10][11] He will also sing, claiming that it's been a long time since he was in the mood for singing.[12]

After Link defeated the joint form of Ganon and Yuga, Ravio came to Lorule to talk to Hilda when he revealed himself as Link's Lorulean counterpart, and confess to her that he lacked the courage to stand up to her and Yuga. So he came to Hyrule as he knew there was a hero who could and save Lorule as well.[13] And he convince Hilda to stop her plan to steal the Hyrulean Triforce as it would only makes things worse for both worlds.[14][15]

After convincing the princess, Hilda took Ravio, Link and Zelda to Lorule's Sacred Realm where her and Yuga's scheme started, so she could bring Link and Zelda back to Hyrule through the crack. Before they say goodbye, Ravio was glad to have met Link and wish to be strong and courageous as his Hyrulean counterpart.[16]

Link and the Princess re-enter their world in the Sacred Realm with their Triforce straight ahead. Link and Zelda look at each other, knowing they each have the same wish, and touch the Triforce together.

In Lorule, Ravio and Hilda have not moved. Suddenly an earthquake rocks them to the ground, startling them both. They watch in amazement as the Lorulean Triforce is remade above them, whole and intact once more. An overjoyed Ravio smiles hugely as Princess Hilda happily cries. Lorule's darkness is infused with light, and Hilda thanks Zelda and Link for gifting Lorule its rightful Triforce.

Trivia

  • Satoru Iwata has noted that many fans have compared Ravio to Nabbit from the Super Mario series, but dismissed it as an unintentional coincidence.[17]
  • The fact that Ravio is dressed as a purple bunny parallels to that of when Link entered the Dark World in A Link to the Past and became Bunny Link.
  • When Link approaches his bag with a Rupee symbol on it in Link's house, he frantically stops Link, saying there's something "more important than life itself" inside.[18]
