The Sealed Temple, also known as the Temple of Hylia, is a location in Skyward Sword. It is located in the Sealed Grounds and is where Link initially meets the aged Impa. Zelda confines herself in the Sealed Temple in the past, where she enters into an era-long slumber until The Imprisoned is destroyed.

History

Link's first encounter with the Sealed Temple

Long ago, Hylia sealed Demise in the Sealed Grounds to stop him from ravaging Hyrule. To save the people from the ravages of war, she sent part of the Temple of Hylia into the sky, which became Skyloft. The section that remained on the Surface became known as the Sealed Temple and rested undisturbed for eons until the events of Skyward Sword.

Link visits the Temple numerous times during his quest, making it a significant location. It is the first area of the Surface he explores, and where he meets Impa for the first time. After receiving the Goddess's Harp from Zelda at the Temple of Time, Link returns to the Sealed Temple and Impa teaches him how to play it. She also guides him as he attempts to reconstruct a second Gate of Time after the first in the Lanayru Province is destroyed.

Once the Gate of Time is complete, Link can visit the Sealed Temple in both the distant past and his present. Using this means of time travel, Link is able to plant the Life Tree Seedling in some soft soil in the Temple and acquire the Life Tree Fruit in the present while looking for a means to cure the Thunder Dragon. After Link collects the three pieces of the Triforce and wishes for Demise's destruction, the Statue of the Goddess returns to the Surface from Skyloft and completes the Temple's previously damaged entry. Ghirahim appears shortly thereafter, abducts Zelda, and uses the Gate of Time to bring her to the past in an attempt to resurrect Demise there. He is able to disarm Impa in the past and escape the Sealed Temple.

After Link battles Demise in the past and rescues Zelda, he puts the Master Sword to rest in a pedestal in the rear chamber where Zelda had slept.

Trivia

  • Link can see the crystal that Zelda is resting in by looking through the door behind Impa.
  • When the Statue of the Goddess rejoins the rest of the Temple, the vestibule, which was previously incomplete, is made whole again. The ceiling of the vestibule has the markings of each of the Sage Medallions on it.
  • The presence of the Sage Medallion markings and the Master Sword in the Sealed Temple have led some to theorize that it eventually becomes the Temple of Time in Template:OOT.
