Spectral Figures are a mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

There are 679 Spectral Figures found atop Rock Piles throughout the Depths. They appear as the silhouettes of Hyrulean Soldiers, and are the primary source of Intact Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom.

When Link takes a weapon from a Spectral Figure, it will disappear, and respawn on the next Blood Moon. Each Spectral Figure can only hold one type of Weapon, meaning it will only ever hold either One-Handed Weapons, Two-Handed Weapons, or Spears. The pool of Intact Weapons that each Spectral Figure can hold is loosely based on the region of the Depths it is located in.

When Link uses the Camera to look at a Spectral Figure, it will temporarily vanish, and the Intact Weapon it is holding will appear to be suspended in midair.

There are 7 locations in the Depths where Huge Rock Piles can be found. These each have 3 Spectral Figures on top of them, one for each weapon type. They are each located directly below a Calamity Memorial on the Surface.

Weapon Generation and Rerolling a Weapon

When Link gets close enough to a Spectral Figure, it will load in and randomly choose a weapon from the currently available weapons in its pool. Once a Spectral Figure has generated its weapon, it will be locked into holding that weapon until Link removes the weapon AND a Blood Moon has occurred. If the weapon is not removed, then the Spectral Figure will not respawn on the next Blood Moon, and it will not be able to generate a different weapon.

Since Spectral Figures only generate their weapon when they load in, the weapon can be rerolled by loading a save that was made before Link moved close enough to the Spectral Figure.

Unlocking Intact Weapons

Spectral Figures have an unlock system that controls which Intact Weapons in their pool are available for them to spawn with. At the start of the game, only the Traveler's Gear is unlocked. These weapons act as a "default" tier for Spectral Figures.

In order to unlock more Intact Weapons for the Spectral Figures to spawn with, Link will need to break their Decayed versions at least once. However, breaking a Decayed weapon more than once will not affect the availability of the Intact version. Breaking a Decayed weapon will immediately allow its Intact version to be held by Spectral Figures, a Blood Moon is not required. It does not matter whether the Decayed weapon has anything fused to it when it breaks, the Intact version will still be unlocked just the same.

NOTE: Breaking a Decayed weapon by throwing it against *terrain* will NOT unlock its Intact version for Spectral Figures. Any other method of breaking the weapon will unlock its Intact version, against an enemy or not.

Weapon Pool Odds

Each currently available weapon in a Spectral Figure's pool has an equal chance of generating with the Spectral Figure. This means that if a Spectral Figure has two weapons available, each one has a 50% chance to spawn. If it has three weapons available, each one has a 33% chance to spawn. Five weapons available, 20% each, etc.

If there are weapons within a Spectral Figure's pool that are not yet unlocked, then the first locked weapon will be replaced by its Traveler’s set equivalent. Any further locked weapons will not be counted in the odds distribution for that Spectral Figure's pool. For weapon pools that contain a Traveler's weapon by default, it will be counted as a separate weapon from the Traveler’s weapon that replaces the first locked weapon.

Examples:

For a Spectral Figure with a weapon pool of:
[Royal Halberd✨, Knight’s Halberd✨, Throwing Spear✨, Soldier’s Spear✨, Royal Guard’s Spear✨]
  • If every weapon in this pool is unlocked, each weapon has a chance of 20% to spawn.
  • If every weapon is unlocked besides the Royal Halberd✨, it will be replaced by a Traveler’s Spear✨ and each weapon will still have a 20% chance to spawn.
  • If only the Throwing Spear✨ and the Soldier’s Spear✨ are unlocked, then the Royal Halberd✨, Knight’s Halberd✨, and Royal Guard’s Spear✨ will all be replaced by only one instance of a Traveler’s Spear✨, meaning that there will be a Throwing Spear✨, a Soldier’s Spear✨, and a Traveler’s Spear✨ available, each with a 33% chance to generate.

For a Spectral Figure with a weapon pool of:
[Traveler’s Spear✨, Throwing Spear✨, Soldier’s Spear✨]
  • If every weapon in this pool is unlocked, each weapon has a 33% chance to spawn.
  • If the Throwing Spear✨ or the Soldier’s Spear✨ are not unlocked, they will be replaced by a single instance of a Traveler’s Spear✨. This means there will only be 2 Traveler’s Spears✨ in the available pool, and each will have a 50% chance to be picked.
  • If the Soldier’s Spear✨ is not unlocked , it will be replaced by a Traveler’s Spear✨, which will be counted as a separate weapon from the Traveler’s Spear✨ in the pool by default. This means that the Throwing Spear✨ will have a 33% chance to spawn, and the 2 Traveler’s Spears✨ will each have a 33% chance to spawn, or equating to a 66% chance of a Traveler’s Spear✨ being chosen.

Weapon Modifiers from Spectral Figures

The modifiers found on Intact Weapons from Spectral Figures are based on Tears of the Kingdom's level scaling system, and can be rerolled by loading a save made after Link moved close enough to the Spectral Figure to generate the weapon.
