Template:Object

A Treasure Sphere is an object in The Wind Waker. When a large enemy such as a Moblin or Darknut is defeated, occasionally it will leave behind a Treasure Sphere instead of Rupees or hearts. Rarely, these objects appear when defeating lesser enemies, such as Bokoblins as well. These glowing glass-like orbs change color, cycling from green to amber to red, then back to green.

Uses

When broken, a shower of treasure is released, such as hearts, Rupees, arrows, bombs, along with any spoils appropriate to that enemy if they hadn't already been stolen with the Grappling Hook prior to their defeat. Moblins will give Skull Necklace, a Darknut will give a Knight's Crest, and Bokoblins will leave behind Joy Pendants. Treasure Spheres will not produce an item that Link has not previously seen. For example, if Link defeats a Bokoblin on Outset Island's summit at the beginning of the game, the Treasure Spheres will only produce green Rupees.

They can appear on the Great Sea, where they float on the surface of the water. However, it is extremely difficult to obtain the items that these give, as breaking it requires a weapon which must be used on the boat, and the treasures must be collected off of the boat, or otherwise retrieved with the Boomerang, and it may prove difficult to aim given the time constraints, along with the fact that the Boomerang can only choose 5 targets.

Unlike normal items, Treasure Spheres do not fade if they are not obtained immediately; thus, they can be left alone and be used later to obtain the items within. However, the shower of items that appears after smashing one disappears quickly, so Link must be quick in order to obtain all of the treasures. A good way to circumvent this is to perform a spin attack, which will pick up all items within the spin's radius instantly. Using a longer weapon will often prove more effective, and as treasure orbs are often yielded by larger enemies, their longer weapons are usually within reach for Link to use. The best weapon to use in these cases is the Moblin's Spear.

Trivia

  • Although all rupees, hearts and ammo for Link's items will disappear nearly instantly, any spoils dropped are subject to the standard time for items to disappear.
  • If a ChuChu yields a Treasure Sphere, the resulting orb will drop three Chu Jellies, as opposed to one. This is most likely because most ChuChus drop Chu Jellies regardless, and the main purpose of Treasure Spheres is to guarantee that Link will find spoils.
  • In addition to the loud ding! sound made when Treasure Spheres are formed, they will also make a sound as they cycle through their colors. This can usually only be heard when Link is standing directly next to one, and usually requires complete silence.
