The Minish Cap is the original source of power of Vaati in The Minish Cap. It has the power to grant the wishes of the one who wears it.[1] Its creator is Ezlo, who had intended it to be a gift for the humans.

Prior to the events in The Minish Cap, Ezlo, a Minish, had created a hat that was able to make the wishes of its wearer come true.[2] It was supposed to be a gift for the humans, but Vaati, his apprentice, took it for himself.[3] The first things Vaati did was changing himself into a Hylian and his master in a hat. After that, he planned to use his new powers to obtain the Light Force. He did manage to steal most of it, and as such considered himself powerful enough to take on Link. However, he was defeated, leaving only the Minish Cap behind. Ezlo told Zelda to combine her power (the part of the Light Force Vaati did not obtain) with the Minish Cap in order to undo all the damage done by Vaati.[4] After that, the cap lost its power.[2]

  1. Fool! A hat that grants the wishes of its wearer is a spectacular creation! Thanks to you, I have gone from being a meek, miniscule nothing to... the greatest sorcerer alive! You cannot stop me now, and I have you to thank for it! Accept this small gesture of gratitude from me. - Vaati (The Minish Cap).
  2. 2.0 2.1 Hmm-hmm! The hat is breaking apart. It's overflowing with the power of life! The hat has the power to turn the thoughts of its wearer into reality. Vaati's heart was filled with evil, and that was reflected in what he became. But it seems that Zelda's pure heart, coupled with the hat's power... has created a miracle! - Ezlo (The Minish Cap).
  3. That foul Vaati! What could he be scheminig now? Link... I feel I own you an explanation of what has happened. You see, Vaati and I are both Minish. I was once a famous sage and a renowned Minish craftsman. Vaati was only a boy when I took him on as my apprentice. But...he became enchanted by the wickedness in the hearts of men. One day, Vaati took a hat I made for the humans -- my pride and joy. It granted the wishes of its wearer. He put it on without my permission... - Ezlo (The Minish Cap).
  4. If one with a just heart wears this cap, things can be made right again. Princess Zelda! Let your wishes be made real! - Ezlo (The Minish Cap).
