Phantom Eye

From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia

Phantom Eyes serve as spies for the much more lethal Phantoms who roam the Temple of the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass and the Tower of Spirits in Spirit Tracks.

Weaknesses and Characteristics

Unlike bulky Phantoms, compact and airborne Phantom Eyes can travel comparatively fast, and are able see in all directions at once. They cannot harm Link directly, and can be defeated with a single blow from most weapons.

Upon spotting Link, these creatures will hover above Link's reach, causing a racket and drawing the attention of nearby Phantoms. To remove the nuisance, Link's only options are to enter a Safe Zone, change floors or wait for the chance to shake it off; when this happens, an indicator will appear above Link telling the player to rapidly rub the DS screen with a stylus. If this is done correctly, the Phantom Eye will be stunned and Link may destroy it or escape. Once a Phantom Eye has lost track of Link, it will return to its original location. The noise they create will often summon more Phantoms or Phantom Eyes to the current floor.

Phantom Eyes can be seen on the dungeon map, much like Phantoms. Since these can see in all directions, it's best for Link to strike from around a corner, behind a wall, or from a Safe Zone with a long-distance weapon. While a Boomerang strike will not cause an instant defeat, it will stun the foe long enough for Link to finish it off with his Sword or Bow. These are only vulnerable to attack before they find Link, while in the air coming toward him, or after they've returned to a dormant state.

In Spirit Tracks, they appear in the Tower of Spirits, first showing up on floor 13. If Link alerts a Phantom Eye while a Warp Phantom is on the floor, the Warp Phantom will teleport to the location of the Phantom Eye and chase after the young hero. Zelda can also use this ability to teleport to any Phantom Eye on the floor if she has possessed a Warp Phantom.
