Shinko Takeshita (née Konishi (小西)) is an artist at Nintendo.

Biography

Shinko Takeshita grew up watching her younger brother play games like Super Mario Bros. and The Goonies.[1] In college, a friend loaned her a Game Boy and Dr. Mario, which was the first game she played herself.[1] She was especially engrossed by Link's Awakening.[1]

Takeshita majored in Industrial Design and found her job as an artist at Nintendo via an information session at her college.[1][2] When she began, she did not yet know how to create art in 3D and was trained on the job.[2] Her first assignment was Paper Mario on the Nintendo 64, and she also worked on titles like Animal Crossing and Super Mario Sunshine.[2]

Takeshita's first experience working on The Legend of Zelda series was with The Wind Waker, and then she went on to work as a Dungeon designer on Twilight Princess.[2] She was responsible for the visual design of the Forest Temple.[3]

Shinko Takeshita's husband also works at Nintendo as a programmer.[3] They met while working on Animal Crossing together.[3] She says he was responsible for programming on The Wind Waker and that he worked on Phantom Hourglass.[3]
