This is an article I meant to add a long time ago! One thing that confused me as I was looking through the text dump was the below quote:

Now then, now then! This is the item Link has put up for sale tonight! Yes, yes, yes! Come one! Come all! Everyone is welcome to participate! And, of course, Link will receive <X> Rupees and an extravagant gift for going to the trouble of providing such a worthy and excellent auction item! Yes! Now then, Link... Raise your hand high!
— Zunari

I don't remember being able to offer an item for sale at any point - anyone else know/remember what this was all about? I may have to break out my old copy of them game otherwise... Adam [ talk ] 15:42, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I believe Anton sometimes attends the auction, in lieu of Linda. Jduff64 20:52, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Attendees

Also, I wasn't sure if it's Pompie or Vera who attends the auction (the one with the yellow arrow in the picture). I can't remember which is which! So again, if anyone knows feel free to edit, otherwise it may be another reason to fire up the game again... Adam [ talk ] 15:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Missing info or number fail?

It says that the items up for auction are treasure chests 18 and 38. But then it says "Once Link has purchased these FOUR items...". Am I missing something? Foxdude54 17:53, 13 January 2012 (EST)

It's referring to the two treasure charts, the Piece of Heart, and the Joy Pendant. --Dany36 17:56, 13 January 2012 (EST)
Ah, I see, I thought that the Piece of Heart and the Joy Pendant were the contents of the chests, my mistake, sorry. Foxdude54 18:03, 13 January 2012 (EST)

Bidding mechanics

It seems like there's a lot of misinformation about the specifics of this minigame. Would be nice if we could set the record straight on questions such as:

  • How much exactly does it take to stun the other bidders?
    • It's not always 10%. If Treasure Chart 18 is at 30 Rupees, bidding 33 won't shock the crowd.
    • Upping the bid from 103 to 113 on the Swift Sail in TWWHD causes a stun. That's slightly less than 10%.
    • Wiki article says it takes 20% to get a longer stun but that too doesn't always work, if I remember correctly.
  • How long exactly does the stun last?
    • It seems the stun doesn't always last the same amount of time. I've measured as little as 11.24 seconds and as much as 14.81 seconds. My measuring was imprecise but I don't it was that imprecise.
    • Wiki article says the bigger stuns last "a few seconds longer". We could probably a bit more specific and give a number range.
    • It's impossible to get a perfect measurement through ordinary gameplay but there may be other means to measure accurately.
  • What's the most cost effective strategy?
    • Is it always better to cause a stun or are there some situations where it's more cost effective to let people bid?

Also I came across a video of a bug in the Japanese version of the minigame that might be worth documenting on the wiki.

Someone with more patience than I could get some answers just by trial and error, I think. Of course, the ideal would be a full reverse-engineering of the minigame logic as has been done for Sploosh Kaboom. PhantomCaleb (talk) 20:33, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Asked on the TWW speedrunning Discord server and got some interesting info.

ive heard from rando people that under 20 rupees you can't stun, from 20-40 you need to bid 50% more (rounded down), and above 40 its 10% more rounded down, and theyre stunned for a random time between 10-15s

you can insta-buy items by bidding 999 rupees. If you bid 990 rupees or more on the US/EU versions then npcs will never bid again. On JP you need to bid at least 998 for them to stop (this limit was set too high and it causes some glitches where you can bid over 999 if you bid 997 and let them overbid)

Some of that needs verification/clarification but it's a start. 🙂 PhantomCaleb (talk) 22:47, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
